How to overdrive motors? Answered

I have an adafruit motorshield and 3 Volt motors. The shield works only with 5-12 Volt motors. I need to overdrive the 3 volt motors to work with it? Pleade tell me hoe to overdrive it?

If you have any other suggestions to use 3 volts motor with the shield pls tell me??

When you run a brush motor on 166% more voltage, the speed will increase, as will the brush commutator current and power increases as the square of the increase of the voltage !

A resistor in series with a motor may work if the load is constant.

Arduino's not really my area of expertise, but Id try using a PWM module between the motorshield and the motors to reduce the duty cycle from the shield.

Just by putting 5V into a 3V motor your over driving it. The motor should be able to handle the 2V difference as long as you keep the motors cool. But they will wear out their berings faster.
