How to replace an SMD inductor? Answered

I have an 2gen Ipod shuffle which I burnt. Now after a long while I found that an inductor cas destroyed.
How can I find it's value?or Can I put a jumper instead?

Tricky. Try to google for the schematics, try to ask in a repair shop or get another iPod Shuffle of the same type and age and check there ...
All options not too promising, I'd say.

How did you burn the thing and how did you remove the inductor from the board? Are there any parts of the broken inductor left (photo)?

Most probably not. If it was just there for filtering you could try, but I's guess it was part of a switched power supply or something else where the inductance is vital.

If you are really desperate and would not mind too much if you totally ruin the thing, you might try a similar looking inductor from some scrap circuit, but that might fry your iPod finally.

I know this is a year old, but I wanted to give some pointers here.

1) Since you saved it, look at the marking on top, it will say something like 101 or 0R1 This is it's value, 101 = 100uH, 0R1 = 1uH. You can look up the code online.

2) if you can't read it, look for a "teardown" of your specific ipod, unfortunately the 2g shuffle doesn't have a great photo of this inductor that I can find (http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPod-Shuffle-2nd-Generation-Teardown/437/1)

3) if the ferrite casing is broken, but the wire is still good, you can use an LC meter to measure the inductance or a calculator to calculate theoretical inductance of a known wire/ID/OD http://www.lalena.com/audio/calculator/inductor/

If you didn't loose it... solder it back. Just use a low wattage small tipped iron.

yes i kept it very well but it is destroyed that's why I cant solder it back and it is a very good possibility that it is burnt

How do you know it was an inductor ?

because I looked at it with a magnifying glass and it had 2 contacts, ferrite core and a coil.
