I got an idea Answered

How about we have some sort of Instructables year end awards and or hall of fame? Rate this forum if you think its a good idea. Something like this: Hall of Fame: One induction per month, selected by Instructables staff. Users to be considered must be nominated by a minimum number of people (7 for example) Year End Awards: Awarded at year end. Users are voted on, however there are first nominated for certain award by a minumum number of people (7 for example) Suggestions for awards: Coolest Most Helpful Most Popular Most Dangerous Funniest Hall of Famers recieve no physical prize, but are allowed to add their instructables to Hall of Fame group, and may recieve special avatar (see Kiteman) Year End Awards recieve t-shirt (maybe) and special "medal" placed on their orangeboard

Lets just skip the "hall of fame" bit... someone add a medal to kiteman's orangboard.

Kinda digging this up here but I like the idea of a hall of fame or notable 'iblers better than awards and whatnot, nominations via private means or by using something similar to the collaborate button, you nominate up to three people instead and just add the names in the box, since the button and code exist already implentation would be easy enough...

I'm not one for trying to get new fancy sections that wreck the poor verworked severs up when a new fancy section based on existing functions can be made...

YES! I'M BACK!

Sorry about the leave of absence, I only just was able to get around my problem. I'm glad to see how things have been going without me. But anyway, Management, do we need to vote or something to create the HoF and Year End Awards?

I wasn't able to post on instructables for like a month due to some error somewhere :(, so no I didn't have a nice time. Nor do I have your adress, (somewhere in merry old england near the coast), so dont expect any postcards even if I climb Everest Nice I've got six ratings on this forum, atleast 6 people think its a good idea.

I think this is a great idea, especially the nomination part. Then we can get a really good feel of whom the instructables community would like to give the award to. I think most of us that participate in this community have favorite users. :)

Sounds good, how would you go about choosing a winner though? What criteria would it be based on? Who would judge?

To much to digest? That was just to get the idea out and seen.

No, I seriously think that HoF should have no specific categories. People get the annual Oscars for best this-that-and-the-other, but their permanent star in the pavement isn't for a specific film, it's for general all-round greatness.

Right. That is the difference between HoF and year end.

How about Most Impractical? I've got a lot of ideas that'd fit that category. And what about the "medal"? Would it just be for looks, or would it grant them some certain ability? Very good ideas, however.

I was really just thinking that the whole exercise would be for kudos, rather than a material reward (I was proud to be awarded the BBC's Field Researcher badge on their Hitchhiker's site, even though it's just a bunch of pixels with no actual benefit).

Do Hollywood "actors" get any cash for their stars outside the Chinese Theatre? I don't think they do, yet they'd happily sell their granny for spares just to get one. There's a baseball HoF - do nominees get anything for being in it? Again, I doubt it.

This came up on another thread (about Las Vegas, I think). I think it's a Good Thing. Don't have specific criteria, though. Save those for the "regular" competitions. Instead, make it strictly private/secret nominations by PM to one of The Management. The nomination should contain a good reason, but the reasons could be anything "reasonable" - number of useful Instructables, overall quality of instructables, bigest potential benefit to humanity, general helpfulness, sense of humour, most creative avatar, whatever. Here's the twist, though: when the management have chosen a shortlist, then the shortlist gets circulated amongst those shortlisted, who then choose between themselves who goes in the Hall of Fame (say, 3-4 members altogether?), maybe in the same way that the Lasercutter finalist was chosen.

Eep! Don't sneak up on a body like that! "Big Sister is watching you" I think I've said all I need to (see above) - lets see if the rest of The Community fancy the idea.

Oh, and no material prizes for HoF. Instead, they get a special Robot avatar, based vaguely on their usual avatar or name, and the right to use a Robot-themed avatar gets restricted solely to HoFers (sorry, Weissessensteinenburger)

aww mannnn...I've been thinking of changing it anyways, a bunch of others are starting to put the robot in their avatars as well.
