I need some brainstorming help w/funds transfer Answered

Hey all;  I need a way to transfer 1,000,000 rubles....

NAH just kidding.

I have someone that  says they are in Australia, and they would like to purchase my HOPE ticket, but their paypal "has been canceled".

Can anyone come up with a safe (and cost effective) way of them making a payment without me having to give out my home address?

Cost effective = would not cost me anything or at very least $5 or less.

I might even see it in  my heart to award a patch to the best answer :-)
Athough, I will have to find some time to actually make one (or ask one of our resident artists to help ;-)

Please understand....I am not asking anyone to help me DO the transfer,  I just need an idea on how the fellow CAN get the money to me without telling him where I live.

Dear Friend,

I am an elderly widow of Nigeria. I will be most happy to supply your money transferring need. Simply message me your banking details and I will gladly handle all work. Please do not delay.

Miss Sandra

How about using someone who isn't so cautious as an agent / broker. I.e. send to (person) - who PayPals you the cash, you post the ticket.

At this point, he says he is still "thinking" about how to pay for it,  I have already sent it to him, and at this point, he still doesn't know for sure (I mean, I can't actually PROVE that I am honest) that I wouldn't just go anyways......I mean, I know I can't go, but he doesn't at this point.

If you're worried about identity, get someone else to receive the cash (is what I meant)

Gee, that's a tough one.

Ask him to send it to your post office box? Or a friend or neighbour's post office box?

Well, that is a problem.  If I had a PO box, or if someone I knew had one, that would work.   It isn't worth it to get one just for this though IMHO

Does your local Post Office have them for rent? Mine does minimum rental times for a month for $10, which isn't too bad, depending on what you're getting.

They are still able to mail you a cheque or wire money to you.  Though cheques are slow.  If there's plenty of time to go then it's fine, you just send the ticket when the cheque clears.

I have already sent him the ticket, mostly because, even if he doesn't pay me, I haven't lost anything (since I can't go, nor can I get the money back),  but I don't want to send out my home address

Though not much better you could receive it at work, alternatively a direct bank to bank transfer might be best.

How would that be accomplished without someone telling someone else their banking info?

Hmm, I reckon five minutes at the bank would give a solution, I'm sure they've got a secure manner of doing it, though there are other online services similar to paypal, which might help, just make sure it's not a dodgey one...

Well, I am waiting for a reply....he said he'd send something as "soon as he figured out a way to do it"  which made me a little suspucious of him maybe hinting at:   give my your address and I will, um, deliver it personally......I mean send it through the mail.

I want no part of that :-)    He may not be IN Australia...

Western Union is always a reputable way to transfer money.

What information is required?   I'd prefer the person didn't know my address nor phone number

I'm joking, that is the one  program that is warned about the most. I'd say to tell him yo get another paypal acct.

> paypal "has been canceled".
.  As Doctor What says: "Tell them to reinstate their Paypal." If PayPal doesn't trust them, you shouldn't, either. Unless you are willing to accept the risk (I'm kind of skeptical that someone who can afford travel/hotel/&c from AU to NYC is going to be shopping for a deal on event tickets online - and doesn't have some other means of getting you the money).
.  I'd place some ads in several of those free "newspapers" you see outside grocery stores, something on Craig's List or equiv, &c. Might want to place ads in areas closer to the event, but closer to you may allow a meet-me-at-Costco-and-we'll-trade type of arrangement.

I have already sent the ticket to him,  mostly because there is no guarrantee to him that I wouldn't just up and go anyways, after he payed me.....I haven't lost anything...I wasn't getting the money back anyways.

Banks can transfer funds directly.  Ask you branch how to go about it in a secure manner.

As long as I don't have to send the fellow my bank acct.. number

 *secondary thought*

Find someone else who wants the tickets.

Tell them to reinstate their Paypal.  It's easy.

Forget about it, sounds scammy.....

But I can guess how it's going to go.   They will send a money order for too much by accident, ask you to refund the difference, they get the refunded money, you get boned when the bank catches their forged M.O.

I can make you a patch.

As far as the money transfer, I am not sure.
