I removed my hard drive and it is now locked. How do I unlock and delete locked files? Answered

assuming you don't want to use it anymore, and are simply looking for a good way to prevent thieves from stealing your personal data, a magnet should work just fine.

If you are just looking to clear the drive ad start with an empty drive simply plug it in and re-format it. Make sure you reformat the whole thing, I believe some reformat can be done inside a partition. Delete any partitions first to be sure.

Like Lemonie said. formatting the drive will not help. It will erase the MBR and all his files.

Of course, that's why I said it would clear his drive. He would have to start over. We need a little more info but if the drive is useless as it is now a clean start may be the only option.
If you don't want to lose the mbr just delete any other partitions and create a new one. Again you lose all the data but it seems like you may be trying to lose it. If not just back-up what you don't want to lose first.
Does this drive just have data on it or does it have your os as well?

-and erase the master boot record.

I don't understand what you mean by locked, what is locked?
Are you talking about it being encrypted?
Or are you referring to certain files being read only?

I was wondering about the same. I think that either the hard drive broke down or he needs a password to access it.

+1... rolln, you really need to give more information in your questions...
