I'm a Freak of Nature (Literally) Answered

New research shows that people with blue eyes have a single, common ancestor. A team at the University of Copenhagen have tracked down a genetic mutation which took place 6-10,000 years ago and is the cause of the eye colour of all blue-eyed humans alive on the planet today.

Apparently, our ancestors all had brown eyes... So people with brown eyes are normal.

I had blue eyes, a deep blue, but years of hiding in the dark, away from the sun which burns my skin, my eyes have become a bit grayer (age might have something to do with that, and maybe diet :-) Now they look a much lighter blue-gray then they have ever looked. My eyes have grayed before the hairs on my head....though my beard comes out pretty gray now...

Just one more thing to make my life difficult... It's hard enough getting the idea of recessive and dominant alleles across as it is, now I have to tell my pupils that they're mutants? And what about me? My eyes change colour during the day, occasionally with mood, but often fairly randomly - mainly between shades of brown and green, but occasionally as far as dark blue.

Shouldn't you be telling your irises instead? sorry but I couldn't stop myself.

Hey kiteman's keyboard he doesn't have AT&T so he won't receive your calls about his irises you see, hes of telling his pupils they're mutants when he meant to tell his irises BUT WE WON"T GET THAT CALL! WILL WE! (I don't know if you have those commercials where you are)

Haha, I wonder if yours would change quickly from brown to green to blue if I made you mad... Mine change too! Sometimes they are very, very dark. Sometimes they're a deep, chocolatey brown. Other times they're very green, and sometimes they seem to be no color in particular.

It doesn't seem to be to uncommon, eyes that change color. Mine will go from green to gold, dependent on lighting. Oddly enough, my hair also changes color, from a blonde to a dark red, which is usually accompanied by eye color change (green with blonde, gold with red...)

Mine go from light brown to dark brown. Nothing extraordinary there. :P My sister has blue eyes, though, and sometimes they change to green if she gets upset.

One of my lab partners in Zoology had mismatched eyes he looked just like a Siberian husky.

I knew a kid like that in 5th grade. But he had about half the intelligence of a husky and even less of the people skills.

One of my good friends at high school had "cats eyes". The pupil and iris was elongated as a cats. Apparently to get 1 eye of this characteristic is unusual but two is quite unique. They were very freaky to look at.

I would love to have cats eyes.... That would be totally awesome. One of my friends told me that my eyes were intense like cats eyes are though.

Yes I agree, although it is hard not to look at his eyes when talking to him. It must be a bit annouying for him, everytime he speaks to someone that is staring at his eyes.

Yeah that would probably get very annoying, especailly if people only paid attention to his eyes and nothing else about him.

At first it appeared my eyes were a dark brown and stayed that way but now and again I've seen flecks of gold in them which is confusing, sometimes they go as far as hazel but when they're brown and there's this goldy colour it's weird.
