Is it possible to polarize a laser pointer? Answered

Would it be possible to polarize a laser pointer and still have it retain it's usefulness?

LASERs are polarised, what do you want to do?

True, but here's an interesting tidbit (see http://www.princetel.com/tutorial_pigtailing.asp).

[O]nce the beam is coupled into an optical fiber, the SOP [State of Polarization] becomes random unless the fiber is a PM (Polarization Maintaining) fiber.

I didn't know that about optical fibers!
I know it's not dead simple, but I didn't know that.

I vaguely remember that from college...
