Is this wireless router good for lag free gaming? Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GL . Answered

I want to buy that router but I want to know if its good for lag free gaming.

Buy a Hotbrick, Expensive, But it is the best out there.

There is no such thing as lag free internet gaming. Not that you can completely control anyway. More often than not your lag comes from your PC being too slow (video card, CPU, memory) OR from slow connections through the Internet (this is the part your can't control).

The best you can do is make sure your PC is up to snuff. This router works fine even though it is a bit dated.

If you do get it, I would install the open source "Tomato" firmware which will give you a lot of improvements. See here for more info about Tomato. Installing is a piece of cake (but do so at your own risk).

well im not planing on playing any games on the computer. i want to play live on my psp.

The "lag" most people are talking about is not their ping or latency it is really their fps making things "jumpy or slow"

i own one of these. i would say the router is good, but at least on mine, after a year, the thing is flaking out. If you are gaming, get a wireless-n router if your computer supports it. it is even better to hardwire your computer using an ethernet cable

well whats the diferance of a wireless n and a regular router?

the difference is connection speeds. Because your intent is gaming, you will want to pay attention to network lag and ping response times. The router you mentioned uses the aging wireless g standard. The newer wireless n router will connect to your computer at faster speeds at longer distances. You can probably find an explanation on google or wikipedia. or ask here, ill write a technical answer.
