First marx generator (Sparks!) Answered

I had just built a marx generator! It is my first marx generator I have ever built, and it make amazingly long, loud sparks, I managed to generate sparks up to 2 inches long (5 centimeters), that is about 50Kv (50,000v) coming out if this generator!

If you don't know what is a marx generator, look here on Wikipedia.

I hope you like the pictures I have just taken! Sorry, no video yet... :(

Has anyone of you built a marx generator before?

Should I make an instructable how to build a marx generator?
(UPDATE)
It is done! I made the instructable!

I've been meaning to get round to making one of these but it's not a project I've been able to do yet, I'm a bit jealous about being beaten...

Jeezz, you look pretty upset after I had built the marx generator and posted on instructable.... :(

Umm, I am not too sure what you are talking about, are you planning to punch me just because I built the marx generator?

Very pretty! Except for that ONE backward resistor :-) What are you using for the HV input ?

Lol! Yes, 17 resistors in the right way and ONE resistor in the other way! Haha! I tried to get all the resistors pointing in one way, but, I didn't take notice what I was doing and the resistor end up in the wrong way... And the high voltage power supply I used for this marx generator is whatever I had in my shed, a small homemade inverter that gives me about 350v (under a few mA load) from two AA batteries, then I multiply the voltage with my 18 stage voltage multiplier to get about 6.3Kv. Here's a photo of my marx generator's power supply.

Is that one of the inverters made from camera parts? I had no idea that it was possible to create a marx generator that ran from such a "low" voltage; most of the ones I've seen start with an input of 10kv or higher!

Yeah, my inverter is made from camera parts.

It's easier to just put up a link to Your Law, I have it on the Bookmarks toolbar for that purpose.

I remember my first one.....some 35 years ago......it blew up though (gave a loud pop, really) as one of the caps was not rated for the resulting voltage :-) Very nicely done....yours is much more neatly constructed then mine was
