New Mac ad about PC parts pissing me off Answered

This new Apple Mac ad is really pissing me off. It's the one where the Mac and PC are in therapy, and the therapist is telling the PC it's not his fault (that he has hardware problems) because all of his parts come from different places. Well, see, on the PC side, we have this thing called freedom. We get to pick our own parts and we're not restricted to the stuff you have to use with a Mac. I don't hate Macs. I've thought of switching to a Mac many times. But this is the one thing (other than lack of money) that prevents me from doing so. You have to use one of those stupid prebuilt Macs. You can't just buy the OS and install it over Windows. Like I said, I like Macs, but I cannot stand Apple. Everything else they make is crap. The iPod is overpriced, and I can get way more, far better features on something else like a a Sandisk Sansa. Same with the iPhone, it doesn't even have a hardware keyboard.

That ad is just to trick the fools. I like pc and mac equaly, but the main purpose of an ad is always to trick the fools.

Macs are usually for people who arn't computer savy, they just want it to work out of the box and stuff, don't ever want to open it and upgrade, arn't savy enough. I like how apple laptops look though

I built computers before and I own a macbook right now. The desktops are overpriced, but I love the laptops. Everything else from apple sucks

the apple desktop computers aren't over priced if you were to buy a pc box and put all the parts a mac pro has in it you would end up paying just as much if not more.

Um, actually I can build a desktop for a lot less.

yea if you shop around but even then it is very hard

not at the places I know.

. It's an advertisement, ergo prone to exaggeration/hyperbole. If you don't like it, change the channel. Much more important things to get pissed off about (eg, war, famine, global warming, &c;). . BTW, the ad accomplished what it set out to do: stir your motions and make you remember it. ;)

Ads on the TV that I don't like, I tend to mock (out loud), which really irritates my wife LOL

Hmm. I thought this particular ad struck closer to the truth than many of the MAC/PC ads. A lot of the advantages of Mac (if you believe that any exist) ARE a result of Apple having more complete control over what's inside the box (both HW and SW wise.) I'm not sure that's great for the consumer (ask me how many Macs full of "abandoned" Apple technology I have in storage), and I'm not sure it's something that I'd brag about, though.

Memory and Disk are the two big upgradable things, IMO, and they're not harder to upgrade in a Mac (these days) than in a PC. Otherwise... PCs are obsoleting technologies at a pretty good rate these days too, and I'm not sure how much all that "freedom" is worth. Most people don't use it at all, and most of the rest don't use it much. By the time the SOTA graphics card you bought with that SOTA PC is obsolete and needs to be upgraded, chances are you need a new computer to support the new bus anyway...

Both have their advantages and disadvantages. The Mac vs. PC commercials are amusing, but hopefully PC can come out with one against Mac. It will make things a whole lot more interesting.

but they can't, because who would do it? Asus, Acer, HP, Zepto, Rock, Toshiba, Dell?! lots and lots of companies are "PC" and "PC" is saturated with internal rivalry. =)
