Operating my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on my laptop. Answered

Recently I bought a Samsung Galaxy Smart Phone - Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (N-900P).   I was told by my son that I could operate this smart phone on my laptop monitor.  as per his advice I bought a Samsung MHL HDMI Adaptor.   Unfortunately my laptop - IBM ThikPad does not have a HDMI port.   I tried to connect my smart phone through HDMI-VGA cable. I do not get the samrtphone displayed on my laptop.   Could someone guide me how I can connect my smart phone to my laptop and operateusing my keyboard and mouse.   I would like to use my smartphone as an external modem to my laptop.

Did you try to install Airdroid on the Galaxy?
Using WiFi you can not only transfer files but also operate quite a few things on the phone.
Useless to make a call, but you can read message (not 100% sure about sending them though).

Checkout an app called AirDroid. It allows you to access most of your functions of your phone over wifi.

It doesn't work that way. The cable only allows you to connect the phone to a TV/Monitor and output video. There is no way to connect the phone to another computer and operate the phone through the computer.

What your looking for is using the Galaxy 3 as a Wi-Fi hotspot for your laptop. There are many articles on the web for using the Galaxy 3 as a Wi-Fi Hotspot. A quick google search will point you in the right direction.
