PSP hack question (two, actually) Answered

first of 2: i have some old PC games (colonists of catan, RISK and others) that are small enough, and i think a PSP could be able to run it. but, of course simple copy-pasting wont do, so ive been wondering (becouse of all those instructables) is it possible when i install a windows version on my PSP? (slim) or with any other methods, dont really care how, just make it able to run those games... second, what is a pandora battery? i just cant figure it out? what is it good for?

Firstly, it can be done. However, it won't be pretty, or easy, or fast. First you need to get yourself a copy of the PSP port of Dosbox. How it's used, you'll have to read the readme for that. From what i've been reading around on forums it's notoriously awkward to use. And from the looks of things it's not very well maintained (last release was sometime in 2008).

Secondly, a Pandora Battery is a modified official Sony battery for the PSP that allows a PSP to boot into service mode in order for it to do clean firmware flashes and downgrades/upgrades/custom firmware flashes/brick recovery etc. The battery, in combination with a memory stick full of necessary tools, can recover a bricked, or semi-bricked, PSP. It's basically a homebrew version of the exact tools that Sony would use if you sent the unit back to them for repairs.

do I need custom firmware for that? and then, when I successfully install that emulator, I just copy-paste the games into the right folders and then it will work?

You need custom firmware for it, yes. As for it's operation, i'd highly advise reading the documentation. It's not something so simple that it's explainable in this little space.

Playing PC games at a speed faster than -10 FPS on a PSP is not possible.
If they are MS-DOS games, you could try dosbox.

Still, if in uses DirectX it is going to be very very slow, even opengl will be slow, it takes about 2 seconds to render the wallpaper on windows 95 on the psp.(mostly because of scaling issues, if we could get it to 320/200 resolution, it would be much faster, but the start menu would take up nearly the whole screen.)
