Plasma Torch Answered

Hello everyone, I am trying to build a plasma torch. What is a plasma torch you might ask? A plasma torch is used in a process call plasma arc gasification. I want to build a small scale working prototype for proof of concept. If anyone could help, it would be great. I can collect different MOTs or NSTs if necessary, just fill me in. Thanks for any input or direction.

I think I found what I was looking for here: https://www.instructables.com/id/High-Voltage-1/ thanks for the help.

Caitlin, the proof of concept is simply melting down some materials, whether it be a bottle, harddrive, flashlight, can, etc.

I'm caitlinsdad, anyway, I think you use the term proof of concept in the wrong context. They have already proved that a plasma torch works, can be built and know the principles behind it.

So are you asking if you can build a miniature version of one or can one be be feasibly built DIY from parts that you can scavenge like MOTs and such? How small do you want it, how much power, what do you want to weld or cut through? A welder or blowtorch does join or cut metals/plastics depending on how it is used. Good luck.

Is that the same as what welders use, a plasma cutting torch?

It's not exactly a cutting torch. it's more along the lines of a blowtorch with a high voltage. Refer to image below

The point I'm trying to get at is that the product exists on the market unless you are trying to improve or work on an alternative design, what is the goal of the proof of concept?
