Please help me help them... Answered

I am in serious NEED of information on HOW TO TURN PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES INTO SMALL BRICKS, BLOCKS, TUBES. I am moving to a very poor island where I need to bring this process to the islanders. The horrible poverty is now compounded even worse by all the plastic on the island that that has NO WHERE to go (the government does nothing). If I can find a way to do the above, in a very small, rough manner (IE: men using machetes' to chop up bottles) it will IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS OF HURTING PEOPLE. Thank you in advance for helping me to help them....I will take ALL I CAN GET. Selling my lake home in Wisconsin this summer and will be gone for good by Fall 2009. Give me something to take with me by then....OK? Ma Barley

Make plastic bottle rafts, and get everyone off the island... But in all seriousness, you can use them to collect water or food storage, to name a few obvious ones.

Might you be better turning these into sheet or board? Are they PET or something else? L

Why not make the buildings out of one layer of hollow bottles and then melting strips or sheets over them to hold it together. If I have time i'll try to make an example of it either sometime this week or on the weekend. Do they have lots of styrofoam?

Ma Barley adds: Will THIS work? What if I take a metal cylinder, use dual sided old DVD's or CD's to reflect the sun to heat it and find someway to make a plunger with some major compression...cement blocks are readily available on the island. What about using a garbage compactor with something that will turn the plastic into a solid state brick? I was told to go for a TUBE rather than a square as it would be easier to remove. This could be used to reinforce the Bamboo. This island is off the mainland of Honduras and is hot, tropical and prone to hurricanes. The poor live RIGHT ON the water and get wiped out in their shacks. Thank you for any help you can offer.
