ProMember cannot download PDFs Answered

Good day,

I've become very frustrated in trying to download pdf instructables as a ProMember.  My cookies are on; I've cleaned my cashe and cookies/temporary fiels twice; have tried various ways for logging into my account and downloading these files.  I can log in but everytime I try to "print pdf" or click the pdf icon to go to the instructables pdf page, I'm booted out of my account.  I've tried repeatedly to re-log in only to be booted each time I try to download a file.  Please help - otherwise my paid membership is a waste.  Thanks to anyone that can help. I just logged into a windows computer, and tested this out in IE8.  It worked fine for me, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work on your end.

Would you mind downloading Firefox or another browser to see if you're still getting the same issue there?  I'd really like to help you try to troubleshoot through this, but it's difficult over the internet.  Let me know anything you can, and I'll try to recreate the problem as exact as I can.

Yes.  I'm still having the same problem.  I cannot download and install another browser on the computer that I use because it's not mine; therefore, no rights to change the browser.  However, some additional information may help diagnose the problem.  Every time I click on the pdf icon or use print pdf, I loose my login.  Even after I log in a second or third time, I loose my login when clicking on anything that is associated with pdf.  I have IE 8.0.6001.18.707 at 128 bit and have been unable to locate the settings for cookie in this version of IE8.

Is this computer a library computer..... if so you may not have the right to accept cookies.  You might want to check and see if you can run your own software from a SD chip or thumb drive.  They make portable software which will run under windows from a thumb drive or flash drive.  You then could use FireFox and accept cookies to that drive.  It works in Texas libraries.

I tried a Google search for "ie8 cookie settings" and found this as the first hit:

Internet Explorer 8.0

Choose Tools and then Internet Options
Click the Privacy tab
Move the slider to choose your preferred settings.

For more specialised cookie settings click on Advanced, check the 'Override cookie handling' button and modify the settings to suit your requirements.

From the description, it seems like Microsoft has made it even more obscure than it needs to be :-/

.  It will help others (I am not sure what the problem is) help you if you will include your operating system and browser specs.

.  In the meantime, if there is a PDF that you just have to have, I can grab it and post it on the Web where you can download it.

Sorry.  I forget some of the simple things to post when asking for help - not an IT person.  I have IE8 with the latest security patches installed and operating in Windows XP service pack 3 - NO MAC.  I also have MS Office 2007 (which has been creating all sorts of other problems but I doubt one involving Instructables downloads).  thanks again for the help.

 It might be a browser issue. If you're using something a little older, like Internet Explorer 7 it could cause problems. I'd recommend upgrading to IE8 or trying out Firefox.
