Project pinebeetle Answered

Alright, well the mountain pine beetle is really eating up a ton of forests, and it's releasing a LOT of Co2 into the air. So I decided, since new trees would just get destroyed by the pine beetle again, why not find a crop (Preferably edible, inedible is just as good) that absorbs the most Co2 in the world (Next to trees). Basically, I'm looking to offset the Co2 that's being released in the forest by growing another crop. Once all the forests are destroyed, the pinebeetle population will die down, and we can replant the forests. Any suggestions?

Log the entire forest - the pine beetle population will die down. Then replant it. Why bother planting something else in between? L

Because if you don't the carbon levels would rise and Africa really doesn't need to be getting any hotter.

You are thinking of leaving the pine forests to die, but offsetting them?! If you were to log them and bury the wood in let's say an abandoned mine you've got some form of carbon capture. Then replant those trees )that the pine beetles would have destroyed anyway). L

Burying carbon is stupid because it rises again inevitably. The basic idea was to have something like corn planted on the area where the trees are dying, whilst also clearing the trees out so that the pinebeetle runs out of food. Then, once the population of the beetles has died down (And hopefully the earth cools a bit too) we can just tear up the corn and replant the trees.

I prefer a hybrid or genetically engineered woodpecker that craves the beetle and will aggressively stalk them. The little bugs are small and hide easily in the bore hole. perhaps a special spider or ant could be effective.

Planting corn is just as stupid because the carbon still gets back into the system. If you let the trees die and then replant them they'll absorb the original carbon with no net loss. If you want to eradicate beetles by removing their food supply: log the trees - wood can last for a very long time (And hopefully the earth cools a bit too).

All our engines will stop also, and so will the people, No more carbon problem. If going to this extreme at least a little corn--- please! Just a thought.

I don't understand that comment (reply if what you were saying was important) L

Were it not for the trees and plant life the engines of the world are useless , But no one would know as there would be no people. .. OXYGEN, Mars has no trees, its oxygen is chemically bound to rock elements and water. Photosynthesis consumes carbon dioxide and liberates oxygen. Or used to.

I don't disagree with you, the original question was about beetles and letting trees die. My comments were in the order of: if you are expecting to "refresh" the forest just do that (no messing about with corn). L
