Question: I need to download a video from my camera, I need a little help... Answered

Ok, some info: I have an |HP Photosmart M537. It takes both stills and movies. My Photosmart program says it looks for both, but it can only find the stills on the camera. When I plug it in, I can't even find the device on the My Computer tree. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get the movie off the camera?

Downloads are accomplished via USB port and cable.

Thanks in advance.

Update !

An update of my software and drivers seems to have cured the problem: Thanks again Nacho !

Thank you, this camera apparently DID require an updated set of drivers to down load the video, as it did so, as soon as I got the software installed. BTW: where in the world is the Mic? I heard myself grunt a time or two, and say ON !!! once while I was making the video LOL

if you look at the flash on the camera, to the left (when looking at the pic) that looks like it (unless its an activity LED)...

I see it now. Yes, the bigger one just beside it senses distance, and that just may be the mic, thanks. The activity / power LED is located beside the on/off switch on the top of the camera.

ahh...yea, mics are pretty small.....

Well, remember, I am used to Electrets and crystal mics, some as small as a dime...but that isn't really all that small anymore ;-)

wow...tat is pretty small.

A dime size around, and nearly as deep as a dime is around.....they look like the moisture ridding plastic things they put in pill bottles now, to keep things fresh. The mic behind that little hole is probably a lot smaller than that :-) About the size of the tip of the little finger from half way out the last joint to the tip.

Oops, I mean that the Electret was about the size of the little finger tip, but the one in the camera was obviously much smaller *sigh* my finger got ahead of my brain in that last post. . .

. Woot! . I agree with fwjs28 on the mic - probably behind the small hole above the lens. RTFM.

Yes, looks like that is the mic, if the hole beside it is used for sensing distance. Thanks.

Do you have a card reader? That would help

Tis ok, Nacho's suggestion worked :-) thanks for trying though

is there an autoplay that pops up when you plug it in that says camera detected? or is it something like a program comes up when first conected

Yeah a choice of either Photosmart or MS software. However, an upgrade seems to have taken care of this...I got it downloaded...thanks.

Does it appear under "MyComputer" when it's attached. It may well be there as a drive. L

when I plug it in, I don't see it, even though it prompts me to down load any pictures on the camera, it doesn't see the video

USB or SD/xD/CF card?

I added that above so others will see it too

k...well, hrmm....not sure...upload a pic of your software..i think i have the same program (but for my scanner/printer)

Ok, here is a screen shot...

ScrShot-MS Digital Img 2006.bmp

o..i have no clue then....has it worked before?.....id say follow nachomama and download the driver.....

unless you have dial-up cuz those buggers are pulling about 90 megs....yikes :(

This is my first try at using the function....we get the pictures down easy enough, but the movie doesn't get recognized. Not with HP PhotoSmart software either.

Like the others, it is easier to get off of the camera if it has a removeable memory card and you put that into a card reader on your PC. It would show up like a flash memory drive and you can work with the .avi or whatever movie format file is in the directory. Bundled software for the digital cameras are pretty lousey and even windows moviemaker is a step up with manipulating the files. USB is usually a bit slow for getting a movie off of a digital camera and that is why digital camcorders mostly use firewire.
