Really simple question about Firefox, if you know the answer. Answered

I'm fairly new to Firefox and have been looking for a long time but I can't find the Temporary Internet Files folder.  I know where the normal one is for Windows Internet Explorer, but there is nothing there during and after surfing in Firefox.

Thanks in advance.

Where is my profile stored?

Each profile is stored on your hard drive in a profile folder. The default location of the Firefox profile is %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\.

  • %APPDATA% is shorthand for the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\ folder (Windows 7/Vista) or the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\ folder (Windows XP/2000), which depends on your Windows user account name.
  • xxxxxxxx represents a random string of 8 characters.
Moreover, you can create a profile in any location you like using
the "-profilemanager" command line option.  See:

Depends on your operating system, it goes in the application data folder, which may or may not be a hidden folder in your documents and settings folder.

docs and settings \ [username] \ application data \ mozilla \ firefox \ profiles \ [random garbeldy name like 49348xoe90c.default] \ somewhere in there.

firefox randomly names the profile when it first runs.  Neat trick:  Back this folder up regularly.  When you reinstall your computer, just paste it in there and delete the other one that firefox creates (WHILE FF IS CLOSED) and it will save everything.  addons, cache, bookmarks, history, everything  - all in one folder!

Try asking Firefox to open the uri "about:cache". That will tell you where at least some of the scratch files are kept.
