Recovering kitchen doors with vinyl any ideas? Answered

The problem i have is getting the vinyl to cover awkward shape in door

I've used carbon fibre effect vinyl on some projects. The key to successful application around corners is to warm the material strongly as you apply it.

Do you know about the surface-wetting trick to get a smooth application ?

Thanks for your reply I don't know about the wetting trick

Get a plant mister, and add a couple of drops of detergent to it. Lightly spray the surface you're applying vinyl too. Now, when you place the vinyl it won't stick at all well, until you use a plastic squegee to brush the water out from between the vinyl and the job.

The trick gets you a perfect, bubble free surface.

Use padding under the vinyl and then use brass tacks to give it that leather chair look. Tack it in some nice pattern like you might see in some fancy restaurant.

Without vacuum forming, I sincerely doubt you'll find a way to cover intricate coves, corners and detail, unless you use some sort of liquid applied vinyl coating.

Thanks for your response
