Resin + a memory stick? Answered

I'm trying to make a memory stick out of a cast of a wedge of lime. I will fill the cast with clear resin and place the memory stick in, and wait for it to harden. When the lime wedge is hard, with the memory stick inside,i plan to cut off the end of the wedge for a lid, so that the male part prodtrudes out when the lid is taken off. Does anyone know how i could cover the end bit of the memory stick so the resin doen't affect it? Also, looking at the lego block instructions, I plan to remove the plastic cover of my memory stick. Will the bare electrics be affected by the resin? If this makes any sense i'd be glad of any ideas! Thank you!

I don't think the resin will harm your bits, but then I don't know what kind of resin it is. What are you making your cast / mould from? To separate the connector, perhaps you could wrap it in cling-film, and hope you can pull the lid off after the resin is set. You might want to try doing this in two steps, one casting each for the body and lid (which is why I ask what your mould is made of. L

Thanks, I've looked at a few more postings, https://www.instructables.com/id/EH0Q7NYIG4EY95SU9L/ this one cleared it up for me...i will cast the lime in two sections, a 2/3 body and 1/3 tip. i'll dip the body of the drive in the 2/3 lime and then cast the tip of the wedge seperately, and dip the connector (wrapped in packing tape to protect it) into the 1/3 tip, to create a lid. I'll post a picture when it's done! Cheers for the feedback.

Do you have a pr-existing cap for the drive, based on your question I'm going to guess not, but I would suggest finding a usb cover, and molding around that separately. The cap wouldn't even need to match the drive if you added some color to the resin. That way you'll be sure the cap will fit and snap on and off properly. With just a pure resin cap, I'd be worried about it turning out either to loose or too tight and making it difficult to use.
