Savage's Wirligig Answered

Hello Mythbuster fans. If any of you have seen the Alaska Week Special you would have seen Adam making a "wirligig". Does anyone know how to make it?

Wow, 4 years later. Are there no decent pics online of the contraption? If it's the one I'm thinking of, that Adam made in the "boredom room", what ever that room was called, it shouldn't be hard to make at all, with a clear picture to reference.

I mean, it's just a couple bent wires after all. The good thing with metal is how forgiving it is, easily bent back and forth until it's correct. So you don't need to wait for a step by step, you can just go at it and if you do something out of order or get a measurement wrong, it's really easy to fix.

Just use something that isn't too brittle, like brass, it cracks and breaks really easy, it's horrible to work with in my opinion but it works well as long as you never make a mistake or twist anything too tight...and anything too soft, like copper or aluminum, would probably have issues with supporting itself, I.E. it would twist and bend instead of moving the parts. Galvanized or stainless steel would be great. Or a hanger of course, if you can find one.

. As Goodhart pointed out Whirligig (not the best of articles) is not very descriptive. Most of the things that I've seen with the Whirligig (sometimes Whirlygig) label have been small helicopterish toys. If you will provide a link, someone can probably figure it out.

I saw this post and the Edgar Snyder ad in the corner, and realized that Adam and Edgar look similar!

Something to illustrate "which" whirligig you mean....there have been a few things with that moniker over the years. :-)
