Suggestion: allow boolean search terms Answered

to the powers that be at instructables - Please use a search system that allows booleans - AND and NOT specifically. when trying to just see what's new on instructables I search all recent and see a page with 18 instructables on it. on a page of 18, commonly 10 on a page are for K'nex models. I don't like knex. I haven't owned any since I was 8. I don't want to see them. but when I try a search for "NOT knex" or any boolean search term, I get either nothing but knex or "no instructables found". I love instructables, there are some brilliant ones here that I intend to do when I have the time. but if I have to dig through 50% knex models I'm gonna throw my computer into a wall. thanks for your time and consideration and keep up the good work. - steve

There is a script available to hide things with "knex" in the keywords, but, K'NEX aside, I agree with the request.

Unfortunately, the script (afaik) only hides them if it's in the title. So "DSKILLER PAIN's UBER MP5!!!!!" isn't blocked with the script.

Mm, I'm pretty sure it'll hide them if it's found in text.

. It collapses them for me if K'nex (and misc variants) is in the title, body, or even the author's nick.

Yeah, the author and the title is all in the page displayed. And does it hide it if it's actually hidden in the actual Instructable? I didn't think it did, but I could be wrong. Which wouldn't block it if found it in the tags. However, we're both talking about Zachninme's script, right?

. Yeah, Zach's GM script. . I wasn't very clear. I was talking about comments and topics. It doesn't do anything to the ibles.

Ah, it used to (at least for me) before the new layout. I think that's what Drago Lordist is talking about; is filtering out 'ibles.

. Until Robot decides to implement your excellent suggestion, you can go to Google and include "site:instructables.com" in your search string. Then all of Google's operators are at your disposal.

So if I was looking for projects with "knex" in the tags, but not "gun" "weapon" or "knife", I could use something like...
[knex not:gun not:weapon not:knife] search
?

If that's what you're thinking, I definitely agree.
