The First 28 Instructables Ever Published (10 Years Ago!) Answered

The first instructable ever was published on August 4, 2005. There were in fact 28 instructables published on that date.

I was curiously digging through that first day's offerings, and decided they deserved to be showcased in their very own collection.

The topics are wide-ranging, interesting, and entertaining. It was the beginning of something special that we've all grown to love very deeply.

What are your thoughts regarding these first instructables, and the site and community in general? Would you like to just reminisce a little? Leave your thoughts here!

The site has grown incredibly in these past 10 years. Here's to the next 10!

I think that you need to promote it more outside from the country where you are because I am a belgian & no one has ever heard of instructables over here. I promote my recipe instructables here with you all & loved it! I gain a whole lot of views extra, ouside my blog! That is so cool too! :) Cheers! x

Hmm, I thought instructables from 10 years ago would be of a much more different type than today. But it's about the same

You know how things sometimes take a while to register when you're not really paying attention? I only just realised that it's just over 3 months to my tenth anniversary as a member!

Congratulations. Instructables is the only regular email I get that I look at EVERY time. I've contributed, made comments and got some great ideas and laughs from Instructables.

Why did people make them on August 4 when they have joined instructables since March or whatever

Instructables first saw existence as "ifabricate" which was launched in March 2005. Many of these first projects were initially published on that platform and were later translated to the Instructables platform and given new publish dates when that happened.

Because they could, and it was more appropriate.

Nice digging there. Most of the instructables are bike based. I expected more kite-based ones as that's what supposedly instructable evolved from(as per the about page).

So technically, is 4th Aug instructable's birthday?

The ideas for Instructables were heavily influenced by our documentation of kite-fueled insanity at zeroprestige.org. When we first launched Instructables, zeroprestige.org was still active. Many of those kite projects were eventually translated to Instructables: https://www.instructables.com/group/zeroprestige/

It's amazing that people still have the same interest. Some of the instructables I see have been repeated over time with a different twist :-) . Instructables has really grown and I love it!

Thanks! How about an index page where we can select a month at a time?
