The Meaning Of Life Answered

Well, the name describes it, What do YOU think the meaning of life is? if you have one i'd like to hear it.
As this is a discussion in the name of clever people, i hope that this will not trigger any racist views, as anyone who is naive enough to put colour first person later,or ethnics first, should not be considered a valued member of this community.

You've read The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galexy, havent you?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Well, most people know about 42 because the meaning has spread far from the book.

You, judging by your (awesome) username, have read it. *high fives*

I was just answering Okoshima's question:

What do you get if you multiply six by nine?

I don't know for sure what he was referring to, unless that guess of mine was it :-)

Maybe he meant six by seven? I hadn't before now considered that he was just crap at mathematics...

Nope, he meant, "What do you get when you multiply six by nine?" It's the Question to the Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything, which is 42.

(No, they don't match; there was a glitch in the calculations)

There, okoshima, I get it!

Really it takes most of a 4-book trilogy to properly explain.

Along these lines then?

"What do you get when you multiply six by nine?"(only works in base 13, the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy is NOT based on a windows platform...

I think the meaning of life is to serve humanity wether it be being the president, being a philosopher, or being a garbage man. It's all about dong what you can to ensure that the next generation can live and the generation after them, and so on and so on. (I know it sounds kind of weird but it actually makes sense.)

There is no real "meaning" to life. As human beings we are hard wired to love, fear and ponder mysteries, such as What's the meaning of life? What happens when you die? What is hiding in the dark? The way i see it is if you're lucky you have thirtyfive or fourty good years. After that it's all down hill, so leave the mysteries to scholars and philosophers to ponder. Just LIVE, persue happiness treat everyone the way you want to be treated and don't confuse happiness with the accumulation of wealth..He who dies with the most stuff, is none the less dead.

OK, from a biblical point of view, I'd say (from Ecclesiastes 12): 11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails—given by one Shepherd. 12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body. 13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. I'd say the meaning of life is living in such a way that you don't have to apologise (to God or man) for, (or be ashamed of) anything you've done.

i like the biblical stand point but living in such a way that you do not have to apologise, impossible. Romans 3:23, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. By this, we all have some apologising to do. And is for such that Christ died for, so that we will not be judged by our evil deeds. More specifically from a biblical view, to glorify God, by turning from our natural rebellion and chosing to live for Him, so that His glory will be seen. Such is done by obeying God, and accepting the free gift of real life which was given to us when we had rejected Him. I've got more where that comes from too, if anyone wants to hear. However don't count on a quick response, i only have the time for internet once ever couple of weeks or so.

I agree. Sooner or later (usually sooner), an apology is essential.... but much like perfection or completeness Matt 5:48, it is a valid goal. Even in our "broken" condition, we still should strive to wrong no-one.

very good, but apologies are thinks to make those you've made feel bad think you're ashamed of what you did, and so make them feel better. its also somthing that a parent would try go get out of a child, as acknowledgement of what they've done wrong, and that they now know its wrong

Well, superficial apologies are cheap. But a genuine apology, or a genuine sense of guilt is the sign of an active conscience. I know we all develope our consciences differently. I would say, when we are truly wrong (although the term "wrong" will be defined differently by each individual), a sense of guilt and a forthcoming apology is in order. If you don't feel guilt, and you don't owe a genuine apology- there is a sense of peace that is otherwise very hard to achieve. If we are unable to feel guilt (sincere remorse) and offer a heartfelt apology, then we may well have a personality disorder.

Lol i asked my friend this the other day, and he isnt the brightest tool. But he said "to reporduce" after thinking about this. I relized that he was almost right. I believe reproduction is the 2nd reason why we're here. The first i believe is the religion. In my case Christianity(presbo/Uniting). Its either that or too post on these meaningless forums :)

Does anyone think that there is no meaning of life. that were just chances from particles colliding. that humans only excist because they mutated to form a more enviroment adaptive animal? possibly you think our point of excistance is to master the sciences, work out the universe and solve the unsolvable? Or maybe you think that god created us to follow and keep the commandments? i'm not saying dont challenge other peoples views, i'm saying if you do, respect them and dont force your view on them

As I posted below, I do see that, for most people there is NO meaning to life, except the one we GIVE IT. If our drive is to help others, we derive meaning from the that. Each person will have his or her abilities to create the meaningful relationships with their fellow beings, and also with their creator.

"Does anyone think that there is no meaning of life. that were just chances from particles colliding. that humans only excist because they mutated to form a more enviroment adaptive animal?" Yep! "possibly you think our point of excistance is to master the sciences, work out the universe and solve the unsolvable?" No, but it passes the time.

Just my opinion.

The meaning of life is life. What is life? it is growth, it is learning, it is an evolution of consciousness--from the lower to the higher. It is the beauty and magnificence that you can see all around you. If you are shackled by your anger, your intellectual tunnel vision, your convenient politically correct beliefs, your scientific dogma, or your religious excuses. you cannot see clearly the magnificence of Creation.

The purpose of Life is to learn how to do your best and not to give in to the weaker way.

Depends on your religion, culture, and your own beliefs. A lot of people don't find their meaning in life. Mine is to try to give something to society. We are here to add what we can to life, not to get what we can from life. -William Osler Oh and there is no evil and good. It's only a mater of perspective. We think something is evil or good based on our knowledge and wisdom.

We are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we're the imagination of ourselves.

It's a "Conan" quote:

Mongol General: Hao! Dai ye! We won again! This is good, but what is best in life?
Mongol: The open steppe, fleet horse, falcons at your wrist, and the wind in your hair.
Mongol General: Wrong! Conan! What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.
Mongol General: That is good! That is good.

"Do unto others..." is fine, but shouldn't preclude a sense of humor...
