The best Christmas present ever. Answered

The crew of HMS Ocean found out that they would be back in port after over seven months at sea.

This is their reaction.

From the video's description:

After lots of time away last year (214 days) -- planned for 7 week deployment exercise with other nations

Diverted to Libya and further operations

Back 9 Dec after 7½ months away - 225 days with 176 at sea

400 people onboard (at peak during the amphibious exercises just under 900 onboard but approx 650 during Op Ellamy)
Steamed just over 40,000 miles
Burned approx 6,000 tonnes of fuel
Operated 16 different type of aircraft off the deck

Realities of deploying:

15 babies born while the ship has been away (fathers did get home to see mum and baby)
5 people were sent home so they didn't miss their own weddings.
1 sailor whose son's third birthday is on homecoming. Family meeting ship

Ships company have missed:

Summer holidays.
Children's exam results
Children finishing school and starting university
The Padre missed his daughter's graduation.

The ship's company made a Christmas DVD when they heard they would be home for Christmas.

Happy Christmas, folks.

Great video, Kiteman!

What are the names of the song and performers? I did not understand a word, but the melody and the orchestration are very good.

The song is "All I want for Christmas".

I think it's by X-Factor winner Leona Lewis from a few years ago - but don't quote me on that...

It's Mariah Carey! I only know this because I've had to listen to her at work for the past week. Mostly this song. :P

Thanks, Jessy and Karl. I will try to download the MP3, it is a beautiful song.

Not when you have to listen to it every time you switch on the radio, for weeks before Christmas, for years and years and ...

That is one of the advantages of to live in 3rd world...

Stop listening to the radio.
Maybe?

Currently swapping around CDs of the Goons and ACDC...

Hmmm, ACDC 'do' "I'm walking backwards for Christmas"...

or

The Ying-Tong-Song...

OR

they could return Rolf's favour, and do "I've lost my Mummy"..!

(Sorry, I listened to I'm Sorry, I Haven't a Clue, earlier - they had the 'One Song to the Tune of Another' round ;-} )

Sounds good. Frank Zappa was "doing my head-in" earlier, I had to stop that...

15 babies born while the ship has been away..

How many were created while they were deployed??
Typically males are more fertile while deployed. They can be 12000 miles away and still get their wives pregnant.

Excellent news for families, and some impressive stats too.

Thank You

They seem to be having a nice time where they are, it doesn't give me the impression that they are desperate to get home.
Things like bubbly-baths @ 3:20 and the guy's position @ 1:45 look a bit odd... I'm confused by the whole thing.
