The future of K'nex guns? Answered

What is the future of K'nex guns?

It had literally been almost a year since I had been on this site, and when I came back, I was almost shocked to see that the best guns a year ago are still the best guns today.  There has been almost no improvements or innovations in the past year, and in many cases, the guns have gotten worse.

I really don't want to sound mean but this is a problem.  The only ones that I have seen (and I haven't looked around too thoroughly yet, so correct me if I am wrong) that have created something notably innovative and new are TheDunkis (new ram concept and gun), Zak (swagboss), Knexguy (bullpup bolt action), and Jollex (repeating sling).  And of course there are a few promising new-comers such as Icetank and Ryry.

I just want to encourage you all to at least try to think of something, put it down on paper, let others know, and even try to build it.  And even if there isn't something completely new you can come up with there are still so many things out there that need to be perfected such as pump actions, shotguns, repeating slings, horizontal (tube) mags, etc.  You can even try to combine some for an even more impressive gun.

Personally, I think the future of knex guns are in horizontal magazines, as they are very rarely used and there are so many unexplored uses they can be put to.

Hopefully that inspired you to try something new, and if you don't agree with my point of view, prove me wrong!  Show me something that you've made that will amaze us.  I am simply trying to inspire a new year of knex guns.

So, what do you think the future of knex guns is?

Hmmm......here's an idea:
We all know that remove-able turrets are impractical. So use a belt that wraps around an auto winding gear. to reload, remove old belt, wind gear, and place new belt. This would be cool to see on the swagboss or tr.

So the gear would be wound instead of the turret and you could keep adding ammo without actually having to wind the turret, just the gear? I would love to see a sketch or a prototype!

Ok. First I'll use an Idea I have for A pump action war shotgun (combination of your idea and TD's idea), and then a full auto rbg. (controllable)

Sup bros...KK did that already, just make our chain for the turret but don't connect it into a circle. I don't remember how he mounted it. It wasn't really practical. Also, you hardly ever need more than 18 shots...

Nah, I don't mean it like that. What I mean is completely different, using the knex chain links.

Oh, ok. Enjoy your over-complicated gun then.

Or how about making another thinner turret similar to the one you're using but just make it big enough to have bullet locks. Then when the gun is empty, line up the second turret and viola speed loader.

Cheers for the shout out, happy I could please.

As for the content of the message, people (myself included) seem much too happy to just put an old mechanism in a new body and call it a replica. This was what tried with my ACR, but ended up transplanting the F2000 mech into it. Worked out quite well, but there is definitely room for improvement. I'm washing my hands of it, at least for a while, but I may look back over it in the future and try to improve the design.

The guns are completely different I don't even understand how you could compare them, and to be clear on this I love his mech. But, his is a sling shot with a doodad that moves one shot up to be fired, and after using all of the bands you would need to stretch all the bands back onto the ratchet to shoot off another round of shots. On the other hand, my gun is powered by a pin. Whether or not his even shot well we don't know, and even if that's the case it wouldn't be suitable for a war (mines not either, but it is more so that his). Also, that connector ammo is poop. The rate of fire would be a lot less that that of my gun aswell.

Again, I love his mech and what I think is the problem here is that just because we both called our guns bolt actions, you decide to compare them.

TD says the KIers (bar you) 'lurk' around ibles. When someone says something about theirs guns... BAM. One of them blasts off, like Zak here.

Jollex's slingshot thing didn't work to well for me, I tried to integrate the mechanism in my halo battle rifle and came across a slew of problems with it.

What are some of the problems?

It's had problems that I haven't seen in Jollex's video, for one thing the pusher is forcing the ammo roof to go up causing all the rounds to spill out, another thing is that the bands don't hold the mag blocker back like they did in Jollex's video (I'm using thicker rubberbands than he is). I band the mag blocker exactly like he did.

Hmm...Well the roof can easily be reinforced. As for the ammo block, there are always different ways it can be made.

Without butchering the look? Most fixes out there would ruin the look I have managed to craft with my BR.

use weaker bands on the pusher and have them attached at the back of the mag iinstead of the middle, therefeore the force pushing the ammo up will be concentrated at the point where the top is stiffest (thats what she said)

I made a horizontal mag pistol once, that I could fi it in my pocket, but it didnt work very well so I broke it.

well, autos seem to have gone under the radar. Anyway tha rate of innovation slowed down owing to the 'great knexer leave' during the summer. A whole load of the pros left.

Haha yes, I guess you could call it that. We lost a lot of talent. And I think you have seen the thread of TD's idea for a full auto. Your free to help out or if you have a new concept we'd love to hear it.

If you're so disappointed in us, why not make all of these on your own?

Why would you ask that? The point of this is to try to inspire people to create something different. It shocks me even further that someone with such a creative mind as yourself finds this would see something wrong with that.

I have(sort of) an idea for a pump-action, horizontal mag repeating slingshot, but it's still just an idea bubbling in the insanity that is my imagination.

Maybe; it involves the type of tube mag seen on KI at some point. Lower overall range, but still freaking awesome.

Yeah I think I know how you mean. I'm just curious as to how you would get the rubber bands around the bullet in that layout.
