What type of battery do I need to power a 12V LED Strip? Answered

I have a 5M LED light strip that is currently powered by an AC to DC 12V power pack.  I would like to power this entire strip for around 5 hours.  I know that I need to do some math with Amp Hours.  I have tried 12V batteries in parallel, series, and various combinations, but had no luck.

I would need a way to recharge the battery, then be able to run the lights from the battery for at least 5 hours.  Preferably, the smaller the battery, the better.

So the question is, what are the specs I need in a battery?  Links would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chase

Two of these in a series

or if you don't really need exactly 12v, you could try 10 9v batteries in parallel.

Or two of those giant 6v flashlight batteries again in a series

I suggst that if you tried 12V batteries in series, you've damaged the string - does it still work with the original supply ?

If it does, did you get the battery polarity correct ?
