Where can I buy a large sheet of perfboard, like 3 feet by 3 feet? Answered

I am trying to make a large array of leds, about 24 inches wide and 14 inches tall. I assume making  a PCB this size would be rather expensive but is there somewhere I can buy perfboard this large, or another alternative for making an array of leds this size?

Thank you,

Chris

Drill holes in a thin piece of wood and push the LEDs through? Then just solder wires to the back, you can bend the legs over to the next LED quite easily to make a common anode or cathode.

Easier: drill holes the size of the LED and push them through from the back, and then just connect the legs with short lengths of wire.

But that's exactly what I said.

Perfboard is perfect for this job. If you have a drill press its even cheaper to drill it yourself. Hardware stores sell it in 4x8 sheets, or you can usually get from home depot smaller section 2x2, 4x4, etc... Poking the leds in the holes and bending the leads/soldering is the easiest method.

I would go here:

About two thirds of the way down they've got a board that's 180x128 millimeters.  My quick number crunching says you'd need about 35 of them to make a 3x3 foot square, or more like 10 of them to make a rectangle 24x14 inches.  It's not a single sheet, but it'd be a simple matter to connect them at the edges.

That's the cheapest way I can think of.  For 10 you'd be looking at $29 + $4 shipping.  For 35 it would be nearly $100, but you'd still be doing it a lot cheaper than radio shack!

I've ordered from futurlec once before and everything went smoothly, it just took a while to get the parts to the US.
