Who are you and why are you Following me? Answered

I have someone who is following me here on this site. What the heck does that mean and what do I get for it?

Its silly, but its a carry over from "Facebook" I believe.

We used to have "subscribers" who were sufficiently interested in the projects we put up to want to be told when we did another one.

Now we have stalkers, sorry Followers.....

Wonderful. It's nice to have these stalk...er...followers. What's the deal with adding points? Every now and then I'll see someone say they're adding +5 to a post.

Its a kind of Kudos system that has developed over the years - adding a +1, +5 as a message just means the poster approves of the answer.

I have 50 stalk- followers - its awfully crowded outhere......

+1 -- shorthand for "I (vote for/agree with) that". This convention was imported from the W3C's discussion boards; I believe they in turn inherited it from still older online discussions.

Bigger numbers are sometimes used as a silly way of being more emphatic. "Not only yes, but h* yes."
