can i use motor to run the small generator instead of fuel engine? Answered

i want to know which card i will use to control the voltage and frequency and speed.

Yes you can use an electric motor to power a generator however depending on the generator it will only be 50 to 80% efficient meaning you will put in more than you get out. So if you are trying to make a perpetual motion generator it in all likely hood won't work.

I think a good description of what you are doing will get you a better answer.

I am sure it was iceng that did something like this to power a European lath with North American standard power. Now if you are doing something like this I can tell you it will work. It may cost you more power than an adjustable power inverter but it will work.

Now if you mean a PWM (Pulse Width Modulator) to control the speed of the motor powering the generator, when you say "card", we need to know the motor specks to recommend the right PWM.

Now if you want the motor speed to control the generator output you will need to bypass the generators regulator, would be easier to use an adjustable power inverter.

The usual reason is to convert one kind of electrical power into another, e.g. single phase into three phase, or to change voltage, or freqency, change DC into AC, or vice-versa.

Today, it may be possible to do all of these kinds of power conversion using solid state electronics. Although for silicon switches, e.g. MOSFETs, SCRs, diodes, etc, the cost of these devices tends to increase with the amount of power they can handle. So a motor-generator converter ?might? be less expensive for some really high powered applications.

A motor-generator converter will certainly be less expensive for the cirumstance in which you already have both of those things in your parts collection.

A motor-generator with flywheel can store some energy, and that can be useful for some applications.

Welll.....

It WAS a classic method of making a sort of power amplifier. We did a load of work with it when I was in school in the electrical machines labs - it was called a "Ward-Leonard set" - you had a big-ass prime mover running lots of generators on a line shaft, then you can control the output with the fields on the generators, which then fed other DC motors.
