constant reloggin & returning to previous page Answered

I use the latest Firefox and have a problem with this site only, so I'm assuming it's the website and not the browser. When I go to a next page, the browser many times has to re- log me (if I've only been on that page for less than a few seconds, it doesn't do that). Also when I go to a next page, it'll briefly show that next page, but then jerk me back to the very first page.

EX1: Viewing the entries for a contest and click on the next page, it'll jerk me back to page one or it'll even take me to the contest details page.

EX2: Viewing items under a subject that has several pages. I click on the next page (or even the next number, does for both ways), it briefly shows that next page and then jerks me back to page 1.  I can be on page 10 and click on 11 and it jerks me back to page 1.

This has been happening for a couple of months now, so it doesn't seem to be going away.

Any ideas?

This sounds like a cookie-related issue, please see kelseymh's reply. Did this solve your problem?

Your browser is logging you out of the site, not the site logging you out. You need to make sure that your browser has cookies enabled and it's not dumping cookies automatically. make sure you have no other browser add-ons (like Ad Block) and you have the latest version of Java installed.

I'd be inclined to say it's a combination of the site and your set-up.  I've discovered that there are many unpredictable combinations of broswer add-ons that cause problems viewing this site.  As such, your problem could take some time to pin down and fix.

I'll pass on a bug report, but in the mean time, I recommend you try using the site via another browser, such as Chrome or (gasp) Internet Explorer.  Start with the plain, add-on free version.

Taken me a while to get back to this, but I was having so many other problems with Firefox, I had to switch over to Google Chrome. (Waving a tearful goodbye to Firefox.)

Anyway, the result is: it's doing all the same stuff for me!! grrr

Yes, tried the clear cache thingy, as well, on Firefox...didn't work either.

It would be nice if there was a "show all" option on the pages, so the jump back thing wouldn't be an issue as much.

The is a "view all steps" button on Instructables.

Oh, I was referring to the problem of page turn backs when going from one page of listing of, say entries in the cupcake contest, and there's more than one page. It would be nice if there was an option to list all entries on one page. As it is now, I can only see the first page of entries, if it'll let me even see that.

If you're still having problems, you should open your cookies and delete (all your cookies, OR just) the one for Instructables.com (while you're logged out) and then log back in. You'll get issued a new one automatically, and it should (hopefully) fix the problem.

(Sudden thought - the page-jump thing might be down to some sort of script blocker or ad blocker).

I too use Firefox, and the site will NOT download. It keeps telling me to log in, and then does nothing. It seems to want me to get a PAID account. If it won't even work to download ONE recipe, it's sure not worth PAYING to get access!

Are you trying to access PDF files, because they are a perk of being pro.

Besides what Kiteman said, let me add this. If you search for "logging in" or "always logged out" sort of keywords, you will discover that this is a frequent problem for a small number of I'bles users. The problem appears to be that your browser (however you have it configured) saves old versions of pages longer than it should.

Go into your Firefox Tools menu and select "Clear Recent History..." (that's on the Mac, it might be slightly different on Windows). Delete any cached pages, and also delete cookies. This will mean you will have to log back in to I'bles (just once), but it also means all the I'bles-related data on your machine should be up to date.
