got editor page for other instructable Answered

I was just surfing around the site and clicked on a related links page. It asked me to sign in, then brought me to an editor for the page. Only problem here is that I'm not the owner of that instructable. I don't know if this has been resolved or not, but it seems pretty bad that a person could get on and mess up somebodies instructable, so I thought I'd post the error. Austin

I just did some further investigation with our Dev team. The author of that Instructable placed those links directly into their Instructable, so it wasn't that anything was wrong with the site, it's just that the author happened to mistakenly add in links to other Instructables they had written which led readers to the Instructables edit pages, rather than the normal viewing pages. I've since fixed up all of the links. Problem solved.

Interesting! Is that something the text processor (URL-izer) could catch automatically? Either directly collapsing the "edit?......" portion down to just the hash ID, or (as a more complex new feature) reporting it to the user and asking if that's what they intended.

Those would both be good features that would solve the problem, however, since users aren't actually able to save changes to another users Instructable, it's not really a huge problem for one user to be able to see another users edit page. Couple in the fact that as far as I know, this is the first time a user has accidentally linked to their own edit page in all of Instructables history, I think this is a pretty unique problem that can be fixed with some simple admin work (by me). Good feature ideas though, if it becomes more of a problem, we'll certainly implement something like that, thanks.

Keith-kid linked me to his edit page by accident the other day. So there's historical precedent. I tried to edit it, just to mess with him, and it erased all his progress =O. It said I was collaborating with him, even though I most certainly wasn't. We locked each other out when we were working on it, just like a collab. Yes, he was mad at me for a while...

I agree that this is not a big problem, and easy to fix by hand when found. I have actually added "edit" links (between steps) within my own I'bles a few times, but I caught and fixed the wrong URL myself.

Can you send me a link to the project that you were able to edit? Please feel free to PM me. We'll look into this.
