Hmmm, around here "road apples" turn more a muddy brown if they lie about for too long >:-)

Cattle don't tend to leave apples, and they tend not to be in the road.

Plus, it's damper in the UK.

True, cattle, at least around here, tend to leave behind semi-liquid, and if left alone long enough to become dried patties, of greenish brown that goes brown on drying. The apples are strictly horse produced, and in my area, with the Amish and all, there are more "apples" then there are "doggie doughnuts" :-)
