how can I make a RGB LED or three leds change colour on their own WITHOUT using a microcontroler? Answered

I am new to elecrtonics and dont have alot of money. How do i do this simply and cheaply?

both technoplastique and firehazrd are correct. it deends on what you want to do. if you can give more details, then we can give you better answers. by the way, if you get a blinkm, you must buy an arduino board, which costs between 20 and 35 bucks depending on which variant you get. however, this is WELL worth the investment.

Just look for a 'flash' or 'change' rgb led - you can get them (in larger quantities) for around 10 cents each from ebay sellers in China. You just power them up and they start changing from color to color on their own. You don't have any control over the speed, but they look pretty cool anyway.

Sparkfun.com has an rgb w/built in controller. Search for "blink m" there's a $12 one & a $24 one.
