Go on to https://www.instructables.com/about/submit.jsp.

Look for the "Step by Step". Under that is "Get Started". Click on that. and you should be where you create a step by step. Go to the mid-bottom of the page where you will find out how to add images. Click on "Choose file". It should be under the section "upload". Search through your files for an image or images. For me it does not work if I do many images, so i just do one, but it may work for you. It that does not work right next to where you found the section "upload". You should find "your library". Your most recent photo should be there. If it is not go back to the section "upload". There should be a place for "Try the old uploader". Search for the file and place it there. Then another section for another file opens, so you could add multiple files. For me that works, but it takes longer than doing it individually. These steps should work for you. If they do not, just try that again. It always works for me when I try again. :)

I'm not sure what you mean by "on a slide". On a page?

Toward the bottom of the Edit screen, there are controls to upload files, including images.

After you have uploaded your pictures, they appear in the Your Library section. You will be able to select them for inclusion in Instructables steps by clicking on "add images from your library".

Y'know, I could swear I've seen several step-by-step instructables on writing instructables, which should cover this level of detail...
