mice in motorhome Answered

We have a Motorhome istored in a shed and are forever getting Mice in it. We have searched many times trying to find any hole they could be getting in , but without success.

If we could fill the vehicle with water & then see where it leaked out it would work but destroy the vehicle!!! Is there any coloured gas for example, we could put in & put it under pressure to see where it leaked out, or light a smoky fire underneath it & put the interior under vacuum.

Any ideas greatly appreciated. Lyn

Make a "blower door"..SEAL a window fan to an open window, or door, do your best to seal all the obvious bits, like around the windows.

Get a cheap "smoke generator", the kind they use for discos and dance shows. Put that in the van, switch it on, and take the power cord out(sealing it too).

Turn on the smoke generator. When the van is nicely full of smoke (10 seconds or less after smoke starts, turn on the blower.

Photograph the van now from all angles, as fast as you can ! I suspect jets of smoke will escape everywhere ;-)

Mice can get through amazingly small crevices. Block them all, and you'll suffocate.

Best, instead, to prevent them reaching the vehicle in the first place - surround each tyre in your favourite mouse repellant. Maybe park it with each tyre standingIin the middle of a baking tray, and fill the trays with stuff to put the mice off, maybe vinegar, oil, smelly bleach, cheap ground pepper etc.
