what happens when you change your user name? Answered

I have been toying with changing my user name as it is a little long, and was rather spur of the moment.  What I am wondering about, is does it update everyone with the change or..., and if someone searches for you under the old name will it leave a forwarded address of sorts, which is what I would want.  Signed, for now "iminthebathroom"

Once you change, you are the new name, your posts are (if I recall correctly) shown in the new name, but noone will know anything about your old name.

There is no link between the old and new.

No one will know you. But then no one will laugh at your poor choice of names either.

Don't sweat it !
You make very cool ( Hot ) stuff.
I get accused of your name because of the installed cable TV in mine.

I heard of an old native indian Chief  with a long name of
ChiefBigScreechingTrainWhistle

Who went before a judge to shorten ( like you ) his name.
The judge asked "what name do you want ?"
"Toots" replied the Chief :-)
