what would be stronger to use a air compressor or and air tank? Answered

im doing some random research on air muscles....say i wanna make about 640 air muscles and wanna power them at the same time (not actually gunna do that) what would be stronger a air compressor or air tank? and how much psi would be needed to inflate all of them at the same time?

you'll need a tank and an air compressor to maintain constant pressure. And probably a large tank unless you're simply inflating them once and they don't "do" anything.

+1 Was thinking the same thing. They always use a storage tank with a compressor, even the little ones. It is more efficient. You can always add more storage for a greater volume if you really need it.

Yep. In industry, pneumatic actuators usually have a holding tanks to power them, with compressor to keep it topped off, that way you can run off regulated pressure for repeatable results.I would think one would mirror the standard practices to guarantee movement was consistent.

As for how much air you'll need? that all depends on the size of the summed pneumatic load, right?

IF your new then your starting at far too high a level to expect success.

You need to start at a low level and build skills and knowledge.

Start by learning something about microcontrollers, your going to need to know. Start simple flashing LEDS and reading switches.

Start with wheeled robots. Examine sensors.

Believe me this is the best approach even if it sounds boring.

You can operate air muscles with a bike pump. Volume rather than high pressure is required.

I suggest you make or buy ONE air muscle and experiment with that.

Without a full set of technical data impossible to answer.
It also seems you don't really know anything about the things you are trying to do.
For example:
The compressor delivers the air and pressure required - this sets the limit for the available air volume and max pressure.
The tank only stores the compressed air, the bigger the longer the pause between firing up the compressor - depending on the set pressure level and amount of air you actually use.
