curtis air compressor?

I have a 1925 Curtis Air Compressor and we are rebuilding it to be a working show piece. The General Electric Motor is  running the Curtis Compressor, and we need the manual of the motor/compressor/tank or all of the Information about it that we can get ahold of so it can be rebuilt  to the exact color, wiring , ect, so we can put it back to its' original  origin. Here is the information from the plate that was barely  readable. Air ride bicycle suspension

So i've been interested in pneumatis for quite some time and recently I came across a small air cylinder (6 inch travel), 12 volt air compressor, 12 volt valve, and misc fittings. I got really excited and without thinking twice I grabbed tools and started hacking up my old beach cruiser (it was quite a mess anyway after 3 trips to burningman). So this is the outcome... I can control the up/down with a momentary on switch out back. Now just looking at this mess its easy to see that well i obviously can't weld. Never tried... Anyway it rides really sloppy as you can imagine, much like an old Lincoln with the shocks blown out, but it is so much fun! Now i pose the question to you community members, how would you have done this different? Looking forward to your responses!

Low Powered Air Conditioner

I live in a converted bus made into a mobile home in Outback Australia. I'm currently building a 'Solar System'  so I can go anywhere without relying on hooking up to mains power. The biggest problem I'm having is finding an 'Inverter' that will handle power consumption to run my 'Fridge' and ''Air Conditioner', I have a 2500w Inverter but this can only run an 'Aircon' up to 300w, so tell me where you can get one that runs at this power level !! I have an idea that may get over both problems (Fridge and Aircon). I was looking through 'ebay' and found a 80L Fridge/Freezer that runs on 12v, mainly used for 4WDs and RVs. I'm just wondering if I could somehow carefully drill a hole into the freezer cabinet and coil copper or aluminum small bore pipe around the internal walls of this, then have a small 12v DC Pump circulating 'Antifreeze' or similar through a external radiator with fan blowing through this into my living area. I know this will be a drain on batteries as the freezer will be constantly running due to the warmer return fluid circling around inside the cabinet, but I'm not really worried about this as I will have 4 Solar Panels totaling around 500w production at 7-8amps and  4 Deep Cycle Batteries rated at 100ah each, total 400ah. Will this setup be efficient as a air cooling system without effecting the frozen food in my freezer too much. Would love to here any comments on this and also any suggestions will be gratefully accepted. Regards Keith

How to make a home made air cooler?

I want to cool the air inside the cabin of a my boat but I don't have room to install even the smallest of air conditioners.  I would like to build something like a swamp cooler (Evaporative Cooler) but without the evaporative part.   I don't want to blow additional humidity around in the cabin.  I can use a pump to get a never ending supply of cold lake water.  I'm wondering if putting a fan in front of a radiator cooled with lake water will give me any sort of a reasonable deltaT on the air flowing through it?  Basically using a radiator in reverse.  Anyone have any thoughts on if this works? what kind of radiator to use?  and if I can get any reasonable temp drop on the air going through the radiator?

Anyone know how to setup a simple air system? I have a pneumatic air cylinder with dual 1/4 inch NPT threads and a 6 inch throw. Ultimately I would like to have the cylinder extend when I flip one switch and release/contract under weight when I flip another switch. Think automotive airbag systems. Anyone know how to wire or plumb something like this up? Ultimately a compressor only option is what I'm looking for as a air tank would add too much weight. Any help would be greatly appreciated! How to use an Compressed Air tank?

I am new to compressed air tanks. I need some details about them. (For an air car actually) 1. How to refill a 4500 psi air tank. 2. How do I know the pressure of air comming out . ( Most Important) Can anybody please provide me a schematic drawing on how do I connect the air tank, the pressure gauges (Gauge 1. which shows the pressure and amount of air in the tank and Gauge 2 which shows the pressure of air comming out)  and the compressor with the copper tubes. I read on a site formula for power of an air engine is HP= PLAN / 33000 where P. Mean effective pressure in pounds per square inch. L. Stroke in feet. A. Piston area in square inches. N. Number of power strokes per minute. How do I get value of N for the formula. Thanks for any help.

Spring powered internal air compressor

Hello everyone, I've come here for some help on designing a PVC-based air tank. I'm planning on building a pneumatic cannon that I can charge once and use to fire multiple short bursts of air. To do I decided to have two tanks -one large tank acting as the main tank and a local tank with a much smaller volume fed by the main. My problem is that I want to squeeze out all the air I can from the main tank, and I'm not entirely sure what the best way to do that would be. My current design uses a spring behind a wooden plunger so that as the volume of compressed air drops, the spring can extend and restore the pressure. (Image attached for clarity) Can anyone spot potential problem areas or places that could be improved?

Wooden Air Cooled Water Chiller?

Does anyone have or know where to find plans for larger sized air cooled water chillers, such as those that used to be next to ice plants.  The vertical towers had water dropping through wooden, slanted slats which created chaotic air flow through the water, removing heat and chilling the return water.  Essentially speaking, I want to build a tower that can be used to chill large aquaria within outbuildings where fingerling trout are being raised. In doing web searches all I am finding are the heavy duty industrial chillers that are high energy users, expensive, and would not work with solar driven small water pumps. Would a water/air powered CNC machine be feasible?

I was wondering if a water/air powered CNC machine would be feasible. Such a power method would allow the device to be powered by an outside compressor or pump or something else that supplies a flowing (pun) source of air/water. This would allow the only parts needed to be inside the CNC machine to be made by a CNC or small electricaly driven control valves and maybe some potentiometers for position sensing. I have noticed that most of the CNC plans that I see use stepper motors which if I understand right offer only 1 speed, but I do not really understand why. Please tell me what you think. I have been looking at these "build your own CNC printer" and "build your own CNC mill" sites alot lately, but I have no clue yet when it comes to such things.

Amatuer experiment Contest! How high can an aquarium airpump pump water? Mini airlift pump.

I believe that many bubble pumps for aquariums can bubble the air about 2ft deep under water.  So if you use the air bubbler as part of an airlift pump, how high can you pump?  Here is a link about airlift pumps (unfortunately the wikipedia airlift pump entry is commercial spam). Anyway, the aquarium air pump I used produces about 2 liters of air per minute (so not so much). So here are the contest rules.  Your airlift pump has maximum submergence of 2 ft.  You must use a T-Joint to introduce the air and you use an appropriate pipe diameter to airlift the water higher. The height pumped is measured from the top of the water in the water reservoir to the top of the airlift pipe and the submergence is measured from the top of the water in the water reservoir to where air enters the T-Joint. So, winner and Instructables world record holder is  the person who pumps water highest under these conditions. I will start with my example. Thats pretty much as high as I will go but if you have a suitable area, I think you might beat me! Competition is ongoing. Best of luck Brian

Can I use a hydraulic pump for air? Answered

I am looking for a high pressure pump (3000-4500) psi.  I finally got the idea that I could use a pump like this: Hand Pump  I think they have a built in reservoir but I think I could pump into it at around 100 psi from a pre-compressor.  Will this work or can it not pump air. Also, would it need oiled because it doesn't have the oil flowing through.  Just so you know I wouldn't be pressuring a vessel to 4500 psi by hand, I would rig up a motor for this.

One way air-valve for camping mattress? Answered

My mother's air bed (camping mattress) has a patched hole in it but it still leaks air. I want to hook up a tube from the mattress to the pump so when she needs more air, she just needs to turn the pump on. However, when she lies on the mattress, the air will reverse out the tube and into the fan-operated pump (the pump circulates air using a fan and has a deflating function). I want to make a one-way air valve so it can't do that. Thing is, I do not know how to make one. Any suggestions?

How to make a homemade air door / curtain?

You might have seen them on your favorite super market. When you enter the store you get hit by an air current from above. They help prevent pests from coming inside the store and also keep the cold/warm air inside. The price for one of these units is ridiculous!! at least for home applications. They range from $200 to $3,000 depending on the size and air current speed. I can visualize a wood box with the aperture on it for the air to come out but the insides would be a bit hard to find under $200. Maybe one of those standing fans? I don't plan on doing the instructable but it would be nice if someone would ^_^.

Dear All,Is there any way to make my Mitsubishi Electric air-conditioner WIFI controller? I would like to control if via my android phone. I was looking around and there is an official WIFI module from the manufacturer but the price of it is just horrendous. They are asking nearly 100 USD for that piece of....module. This is the one: was looking around on ebay too and there are numerous amount of controllers which makes your air-conditioner "smart", but those are connecting via infrared, so you have to connect it to your PC or laptop via micro USB, connect it to your network, and then it communicates with the air-conditioner via infrared, but this is kinda hassle, since you have to position it exactly the way so the signal reaches the front "part" of the would be awesome if there would be a way which is working like the manufacturer's one, and doesn't cost a 100 USD.Waiting for every suggestions.Thank you.:Janos

This circuit pulls energy from thin air Most of us are familiar with Texas Instruments (TI) as the company that made the graphing calculator we used in school. Calculators made be the company’s bread and butter, but that’s not all they’ve been up to. TI recently introduced the industry’s lowest power DC/DC step-down converter, a tiny circuit that could allow future electronics to power themselves without batteries or wires. The tiny power circuit allows mobile accessories and wireless sensors to manage microwatts generated from solar, thermoelectric, magnetic and vibration energy, which could eliminate the need for bulky, toxic batteries in the future.
