A/C Compressor Lubrication Help? Answered

I am almost completed an A/C compressor compressor.  I wanted an air compressor, and I decided to build one from an A/C compressor.  Before I finish it up, do I need to have some oil being fed through the system and separated before the tank, or can I run it straight with just air coming in and no oil? Tips and tricks for UV curing glue, resin and coatings

Only a few years ago your only option to repair certain plastics, glass or even a broken crystal was epoxy based resin or the good old superglue.You might have already tried one of the 5-seconds-repair pens or tried your own UV curing nail polish art at home.For the later you might be lucky as the resins used here are optimised for the purpose and lights you get with them.Sadly even the best nail polish is no substitude for a glue as the material properties need to be different.One of the most common complaints when it comes to using some UV glue, like Kafuter or similar is that it never comes with instructions.Sould be straight forward but it is not free of problems.For example almost all commercail UV curing glues that you can buy require quite stirct procedures and for the light the right wavelenth(s).Resins and coatings can be even more painful here as they might also require you to stick to the correct temperature.Let's start with one thing you might have encountered already...The glue is definately cured and rock hard but the surface tacky and smeary.Quite annoying if you want to fix a piece of jewellery and can't prevent it from collecting dirt and dust...The next thing you might have encountered is that despite having transparent materials it seems to be impossible to cure the clue.Both problems come down to wavelenght and exposure.UV curing glue is prevented from curing in the presence of oxygen - a factor utilised for example in resin based 3D printers.Uncovered glue is exposed to the oxygen in the air and won't cure easy.The glue or resin below this layer however with fully cure with ease in the absence of oxygen.For the second problem consider that not all materials that you can see through will let UVC light pass through ;)Bonding strenght is another complaint I hear a lot...Be aware that certain things just are no good for UV curing glues or resins.Take the molds you get for that purpose: on the material the glue won't bond!Teflon is another prime candidate here.But in a lot of cases it comes down to surface preparation.Don't be afriad to sand the surface!Not only will the surface area increase but the scratch marks will be invisible once filled anyways.Use sandpaper on your fingernails, then go over with clear nail polish -mirror finish ;)With curing often a problem consider to fully cover the glue.A bit of clear sticky tape, food wrapping foil....If that is not an option then eliminate the oxygen.You can use a container filled with inert (for the glue) gas like CO2 or just place a burning candle in it until it goes out....Either way the amount of oxygen should then be low enough to cure the surface of your glue.Not always is any of the above an option.Then you can still try more power and a lover wavelength.Mercury based lamps for example provide a very broad and powerful light that in most cases will cure within seconds.For a proper surface cure you need a wavelength of 265nm or lower.LED's offering this exist but at prices well out of range for the hobby user.A mercury lamp under high pressure is nothing for short term use and the limited lifespan does not always justify the costs of buying them.Like with most things in life certain inventions can have a dual purpose.Quality germicidal lamp systems for examples often state to go as low or even lower than 265nm.And they come at a fraction of the cost you have with a broadband mercury lamp.Even cheaper is the fre weather forecast.If the sun is siad to be strong enough so you need protection than even the worst glue will fully cure in seconds outside in the sun - tackfree!Don't be fooled and protect yourself!!These tiny LED lamps for your glue stick, the curing thingies for your nailpolish and everything else using UV light comes with warnings.For very good reasons!It might be hidden in the fineprint but you can not really see UV light.The blueish-purple glow you see is on the high end of what comes out and by that in the visible range of your eye.Just because a LED only gives a faint glow you see does not mean the UV light wouldn blind you if you could see it!Even worse for fluoroscent lamps or open cruning systems like those for your nailpolish.Reflected UV light is still UV light and you can still NOT see it!Stories of people getting sunburnt from germicidal lamps in a butcher shop or other people going blind from checking money as their living have a true base...In most cases lamps used well past their lifespan or simply the wrong type of lamp but still: the damage came from UVC light...If you just love creating your own artwork or jewellery with UV curing resins and glues than protect yourself.Proper sunglasses with a stated UV protection for example or just black nitrile gloves for your hands...

A/C a room with Peltier units.? Answered

 Would building an array of peltier units in a windows frame work to cool down a room? This way hot air would stay outside and the inside "windows" would be cold. Either using heatsink and multiples computer fans to throw air in room or pumping water in pipes then on the units then to a big fan. Also, could this run on solar cells placed on the outside?

How to make florescent ink?

I have Googled and searched Wiki on how to make fluorescent (ultraviolet) inks. I want to know how to make them. I dont want th lemon juice , corn starch, milk or other types of invisible inks. I want to make the stuff the glows under uv light. I searched using uv, ultraviolet, fluorescent inks but couldnt find anything other than the lemon juice and other types of "invisible" writing. Please help if you know where to find or if you know how to make fluorescent (ultraviolet) inks. I want to make the stuff myself and not have to buy it off the internet.... So while yes there are alot of things that glow under UV, I want it in liquid form.

A neon with an a/c that just doesn't work, Now what can this girl do to fix?

I have a 05' dodge neon with an a/c that just doesn't work. I bought on of those R-134a kits and checked the PSi like the instructions say to and low and behold the gauge is reading 200 PSi. Now what can this girl do to fix the problem...any helpful tips?

Looking for a 400-600 C electric burner / heating element?

Im working on building a stirling engine which is powered by heat. The bottom cylinders will need to be heated to 4-600 C.  A burner similar to an older spiral stove burner would work but I'm afraid it wouldn't be able to reach the required temperature range.  The diameter of the burners surface needs to be at least 3 inches. Ive searched and searched but am unable to find much that looks like it will work.  Could someone explain how to possibly make something with some sort of heating element?  Any ideas?

"Hydronic" A/C in an enclosed overhead space condensing and weeping ruining the ceiling tiles.

In an historic building, a remodel installing a chill water A/C air handler into a ceiling space now completely enclosed, is experiencing severe condensation and weeping onto the drop ceiling tiles.  I suspect a building code violation; "non vented installation". I am guessing a small powered fan/blower, cycling the air in the over head enclosed space with the "air-conditioned" environment. I am just guessing...  I would be honored to receive expert advice. Antenna tracker or pointer....calling GPS robotics, UAV and R/C guys...

I want to build a system that can point a directional antenna to a known set of GPS coordinates, because if the base unit with the antenna knows it GPS location and then can have the know data of another directional antenna's GPS coordinated either via Google Earth File or a spread sheet or long/lat's or via another method....also I would like this system to be able to track a UAV or R/C plane/copter as the DIY antenna trackers do as I have seen on R/C forums and You-tube. the initial request is what I desire first....I want to go out into a field and set up this tripod mounted Pan/tilt mechanism with mounted directional antenna(s) and point it to the closest fix antenna of known coordinates, automatically. here is a you tube link for something along the line of what the base unit is and would look like: and and

I'm trying to make a sail with tarpaulin. What can i use to sew and/or glue the tarps together? Answered

I'm trying to put together two polyethylene tarps together for a makeshift sail i'm working on. I've looked at some spray adhesives but I've never used them before an am not sure how much i can trust them. What are some spray adhesives i could use? I'm looking for something that is extremely strong and waterproof (i'd be great if it's UV resistant too). I'm thinking i'll also hand stitch it too just to add extra strength - any advise there?  Thanks

Which low boiling fluid to use (that won't corrode metals and plastics)?

I'm having a bit of a headache trying to chose and procure a working fluid to use in my solar device. It needs to be low boiling, but as my device so far is involving copper, aluminium and maybe some plastics and rubbers, it would also need to be as non corrosive as poss. Cheap and plentiful are also important, not so much for the prototype, but when these things are ultimately used, they need to be easy to assemble. The four options I'm aware of so far are: Methanol boils at 64.7 °C, I thought it would be easy to get but is turning out quite difficult and maybe expensive, also apparently eats through every material I plan to use. Ethanol Boiling Point: 78.4 °C, easier to get but still corrosive. Hexane Boiling Point: 69 °C, not corrosive (?) but not at all easy to get or cheap. Water Boiling Point: 100 °C, which may be a bit too high. The fluids will be boiling in a non-pressurised but sealed environment, so no atmospheric water will be able to get in or out. Help?

Pi Problems

I am trying to write a program that calculates pi. I am doing it in Visual C++. I am using the Gregory-Leibniz series. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to do the division necessary. It isn't returning decimals. For example, 4/3 returns 1, and 1/2 is returning 0. Is it even possible to get it to return decimals? I've tried using int, float and short as the answer variable and none worked.

Help Needed, 3D Printing Via Electroplating

A few years ago I saw a 3D printer that printed using UV reactive resin and a DLP projector and I obviously started thinking about ways to make this for myself. Recently I have been entertaining the idea of repurposing the old CRT technology with phosphors that produce UV light to replace expensive DLP projectors but I couldn't think of an easy way to do that. I was fiddling with various ways of repurposing one of my old CRT monitors when I had a decent idea. Instead of converting electron beams into light to harden resin why don't we harness the electron beams for the purpose of electroplating! Instead of resin we could use an ion solution and build models out of metal! Of course we would still need to replace the phosphors embedded glass screen with a conductive plate to serve as a non-consumable anode. Unfortunately I do not have the time or resources to do this myself so I wanted to post this to the Instructables Community and see If anyone felt this was a worthwhile project.  Please let me know what you think of the idea! I would love to see this turn into an actual project.

Remote Gokart

I have been thinking about electrics latley and building an electric gokart type vehicle. PROBLEM: I want it to pick me up from the bus stoop when I get home SOLUTION:?? audrino controlled servos with a map programed into it with sensors to sense things infront and behind??IDK I have a friend that can "kindof" program C or C++ All I want it to do is drive out of my yard, make a sharp right turn then travel about a block and a half, make a sharp left turn then travel about two hundred feet. White walls yellowing

Right so i cleaned off my white walls last night with some lava soap and purple power cleaner degreaser and scrub brush but i noticed they have a light browning effect not sure if that UV damage or some other type of oxidation.   ive checked around the interwebs and the only things i can come up with are  island girl sea glow,  bleche white and brillo pads with magic erasers am i stuck with the yellow??  ive only had these white walls since agust

Can a magnetic propulsion system be achieved

Earnshaw's theorem states that a collection of point charges cannot be maintained in a stable stationary equilibrium configuration solely by the electrostatic interaction of the charges. This was first proven by British mathematician Samuel Earnshaw in 1842. It is usually referenced to magnetic fields, but originally applied to electrostatic fields. It applies to the classical inverse-square law forces (electric and gravitational) and also to the magnetic forces of permanent magnets and paramagnetic materials or any combination, (but not diamagnetic materials). Earnshaw's theorem has no exceptions for unmoving permanent ferro-magnets. However, moving ferromagnets, certain electromagnetic systems, pseudo-levitation and diamagnetic materials are areas to which Earnshaw's theorem doesn't apply and thus can seem to be exceptions, though in fact these exploit the constraints of the theorem.  Can we develop a safer cleaner transportation method that involves electro magnets that can propel cars using the city's grid to adjust the power on the street or road to move cars. similar to  famous movies vehicles like STAR WARS(c) Repulsor Lift(c) technology or The MATRIX(c) Ships OSIRIS?

heliostat and sun tracker basic program

In the late 1980s, I designed, built and programmed a computer-controlled heliostat. Its mirror reflected sunlight into my living-room, making it much brighter. It worked excellently with almost no attention for many years, until a neighbour's tree grew and blocked sunlight from reaching the mirror. The computer was a Commodore VIC 20, which was old even then, and had only 4.5 kilobytes of memory. The program I wrote, in Commodore BASIC, fitted into that space and handled all the control functions. It even included a few "bells and whistles". For example, at night-time the mirror was automatically parked face downward to reduce the buildup of dust. That particular program would work only on a VIC, and I haven't seen any of those for many years. However, I have recently taken the astronomical and trigonometrical parts of the program and made them into a new program which I'll append below. It calculates the position of the sun in the sky, as azimuth (true compass bearing) and angle of elevation, as seen from anywhere on the earth at any time on any date. It also calculates the required orientation of a mirror if it is to reflect sunlight in any desired direction. With the addition of some code to enable the computer to control motors, this could become the software for a computerized sun-tracker or heliostat. I'll append two versions of the program. The first is in QBasic, and contains quite a lot of explanatory comments. The second version is in a very generic BASIC, and has been tested on many implementations of the language. It even has line numbers! Personally, I prefer the QBasic version. The coding is more elegant. However, the generic version is likely to be useful to more people. It's public-domain. Use it for any purpose, even commercially. Using Neutron radiation from Aluminum foil is this Legal to do?

I am wondering if I expose plants to Neutron radiation and carefully burn them afterwords.at 500 deg C is this safe and more importantly is it Legal?? I plan to use a 4% thorium Rod (Welding Rod). What about Beta and gamma radiation is this Legal. I heard on youtube it is as long as you Properly dispose of the seeds.  I did a similar Project with clover a few cm away from a total of 20,000 volts 35 mA power supply and dosages above 400 volts per meter squared killed the clover plants very quickly. I sterilized the soil and seeds with bleach and incinerate it with High heat 500-600 degrees C. I washed by draining most of the bleach out of the seeds.

When installing a domestic pressure pump how far can the pump be away from the tank it's sourcing the water from?

When you install a pressure pump would it be possible to have the pump 200 meters away from the tank it's sucking from if the pump is lower than the tank by about 1 meter? Thanks in advance

Who I can unclored plastic, colored in the mass

Hi all ! I want uncolored plastic, or uncolored latex, and I need to know how it's possible. For have light color, pastel color. Like nightblue => lightblue. It's used for cleaning old yellow plastic, like old white or grey computers or consoles, but it's maybe only for have the origin color, not for uncolored the color in the mass. It's yellow because the plastic is oxyded. With hydrogen peroxyde + UV. So, do you know if this combo is good for my project ? Or who I can make it ? It's for custom parts. I have five existing wall lights that are hard wired to a single switch, running on 230v a/c It's impossible to run alternate wiring as it's all embedded in the walls (which are three feet thick.)   I am going to convert each light to be dual-function, with (a) background candle-LEDs and (b) a couple of 5w LED spotlights Already I have acquired 12v LED drivers and step-down transformers (12v to 5V) for the candle LEDs.   What I wanted to figure out was some electronincs to allow me to control them all by using the existing in-wall wires and perhaps replacing the wall switch with a push-button switch. What I had in mind was to be able to achieve different functions sequentially, possibly using an IC like a 4017. However, I'm only a beginner at electronics, and I haven't been able to figure out a way to do it.   One sequencing that would be effective, commencing with an all-off situation, would be:   1st press = candle lights only on   2nd press = LED spotlights on (Candle bulbs remain on)   3rd press =  All off   Cycle then repeats.   If this proves to be impossible, I also considered the idea of short and long presses, which could trigger a timer for the long press to acomplish some switching   The power of 230v a/c will also be travelling down the same wires to give power to the 12v LED drivers in each lamp, so I'm actually talking about sequential presses on a 230v a/c circuit.
