Building A 12 V Table Cigar lighter For My Birthday

I would like to build a distinctive 12 V electric table lighter. I have a really nice cigar box to hold the works, what should I use to power the car cigar lighter assembly I'm using? I have a leftover 120 V AC to 12 V 1 A converter, or should I just use a 120 V to 12 V transformer? I'm pretty sure that the lighter would work with AC and don't know if the 1 A from the converter would be enough. Usually in a car you get more than 12 V, more like 13 to 14 V

How to make a mini jet engine?

Hi Everyone, I have seen on YouTube (and here on instructables) how to make a small jet engine from a few parts..... I used a metal tube and put  standard lighter nozzle on one end and drilled a couple of holes in the middle. When I lit it, all i got was a regular flame out of the end. I know I'm doing Something wrong, I just don't know what. Can someone please shed some light on this? Thanks in Advance!!! Mr. Electric

I have 3 devices under my car connected to my exhaust, but I dont know what they are or what to do about them?

I have 3 devices under my car connected to the exhaust system. Im unsure about what they are, what I can do about them, or how I can modify these to make the car louder, lighter, and less restricted. The car is not broken and doesnt need repair, this is about modding it. My biggest concern is the last device (3rd picture), because it is big, and most likely heavy. I know the exhaust system will restrict the engine, I also know that the exhaust system has a muffler and a catalytic converter. So my question is   What is this device in the back? How can it be removed/bypassed/replaced/modified to be louder lighter and less restricting? And if I cant do anything with it, what can I do? (the devices are in order from closest to engine to farthest)

Best way to clean an etched stain in laminate countertops? Answered

So I used some of the copper etching solution of HO and HCl and some of it accidentally spilled on my bathroom countertop (I think it's laminate, one of those veneer things). I didn't think it sat very long, but now the area where it sat is distinctly lighter. What's interesting is that if I wipe it down with water, it becomes "normal looking," but as soon as it's dry, the lighter stain comes through again.  Anyone have any suggestions? Is this something that can be absorbed or cleaned off? Or is there a solution you can use to darken a countertop?

Making new bench seat

I need to remake the rear bench seat for my boat. The old one is about 100lbs and I would like something a little lighter. I can make a new frame with aluminum, but I am stuck with what to replace the cushions with. Whatever foam they are using is super heavy as well. Is there some way to remake the seat with styrofoam beads beads or something and still maintain form? I considered making a cheap gel seat using a thinned out mixture of silicone, but that wouldn't be any lighter than the original bench and would likely be heavier, actually. I think foam beads would work pretty slick.

Inverted Drill Press?

Hi..for those of you who may own a drill press..do you think it would  be possible(On the smaller lighter versions maybe)  to invert it and use the press upside down to drill though 8" thick wood and land spot on ?..Cheers

Removing Bicycle Decals

Does anyone know of a good way to remove the decals from a bicycle, specifically a Mongoose Montana? On the Interweb, a lot of people say you can, but just as many others say that doing so will ruin the paint and mess up the clearcoat that is applied over the decals. Is there a way to tell if my bike has a clearcoat above the decals? If I can remove them, would heating them with a hairdryer aid the removal process? And the sticky residue - what's the best thing to get rid of it? Lighter fluid? Thanks!

Make a bike out of polypropylene tubes

What do you think about making a bike out of polypropylene tubes? Yes, that ones that you use for water in your home. Here is a picture if you don''t know what I'm talking about: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSlt1l1TJBvDnuc8kboERt8aULrcyFnvraA9b28m7Aii4rsIpqqhQ Obviously the design won't be like normal bikes. It will be more reforced. My questions are: 1-How wide the tube needs to be? 2-How I joint them? I want to do the frame for an electric bike. It will be a lot lighter than welded steel. Thank you. Regards.

Powering car LEDs via USB

Hi guys, I've always wanted to make my car (my parents car :'c ) a little bit more fun, It's a 10/11 year old ford fiesta without Bluetooth/USB. Here's what I would like to do, just wondering if anybody can see any problems with this. I know very little about power or how electronics work. I want to be able to skip songs and answer calls without having to pick up my phone, for that I am going to buy this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01E3UC59Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc;=1∣=AP087GSGD7Y0R Now this will use my cigarette lighter for power which is fine until I get to my next part. I also wanted to put LED strips under each of the seats, and for that I would buy this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Possbay-Interior-Atmosphere-Decoration-Sound-activated/dp/B017VSY3RY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid;=1477573217&sr;=8-3&keywords;=car+accessories As you can see, that also requires the use of the cigarette lighter. What I want to do to get around the problem is buy this "1M USB DC 5V To DC 9V 12V" cable and also plug that into one of the USB slots: https://www.amazon.co.uk/2-1mm-Module-Converter-Barrel-Connector/dp/B01G56J4I6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid;=1477573430&sr;=8-2&keywords;=usb+5v+to+12v. Do you reckon this is possible? Are there any obvious problems with what I'm trying to do that I may have missed/not be aware of? Thanks!! Tim Clark

How to clean dremel bits?? Answered

Can anyone help me clean my dremel bits? I recently bought a grinding set for my dremel to use on my Traxxas car. After using it on the plastic chassis most of my grinding and sanding bits are covered in plastic. The reason is because the plastic heats up when I use it and the plastic melts onto the grinding stone. I thought of maybe using a lighter to maybe melt the plastic off but it just burnt the plastic and a bit of the stone. It's not that the bits are expensive, I can afford $2 but the gas to go the hardware store is just too much for a couple of bits. I would just use my bike here and there, but it just becomes a hassle go over there every hour. Thanks

How do I wire an electronic flashgun?

I'd like to build an electronic flashgun, like those used in magic tricks. Basically you put flash cotton in the base of the barrel, then some flash paper on top of that, and when the glo plug ( cigarette lighter thing ) at the base heats up it lights the cotton which shoots the now lit paper from the barrel causing a flame thrower type effect. So I'm after some advice and instructions from anyone out there who knows more about DIY electrical wiring and whatnot than I do ( which is basically everyone ) so that I don't hurt myself from lack of know how XD In return I'll make an Instructable of my efforts so other people can make their own

DIY mini Heater for vaporizer ? Answered

Hello, I am building a Vaporizer in Steam Punk style! It has now become a rather advanced project... And I want to include a little heater instead of using a Lighter to Evaporate the oils in the Weed. It is really hard to find a tiny battery driven heater... I found this one:  http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/486719295/ceramic_heater.html But I would have to order 2000 -_- Not really an option. The best solution so far was on this site actually.. https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-battery-powered-soldering-iron/ Just not sure it has the right length for my design.. I would prefer a Flat Heating element and then the Weed is placed inside a small Iron Box on Top. Also, I dunno about the hazards of that soldering iron. Any ideas? A Wire and a battery and resistance? Edit: Also found something like this: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/overview/0506030/Heizelemente;jsessionid=DB600645BCB22DBD20445E3E530EB879.ASTPCCP9

lithium vs lead acid for gokarts

For electric go karts, which one is better (for the money)? Lead acid is by far much much cheaper, but it is much much heavier. With a heavier battery you need a stronger frame, which weighs even more. With all of this weight you need an even stronger motor to push it all. With lithium you can build a lighter, cheaper frame, and power it with a weaker and cheaper motor and still obtain the same speeds. Lead Acid batteries take up about 1/3 the weight of a gokart with rider (1/3 being the driver, and the other third being chasis and motor and such). Reducing the weight by about a third (honestly, lithium, batteries weigh like nothing) could have huge performance improvements. So, does spending more money on batteries, and saving money on chasis and motor equal out to spending less on batteries and more on chasis and motor?

Curious striations on avocado sapling trunk...?

Greetings I started growing an avocado tree from a pit...it's at least 8 months old now.  My roommate said it was important to nip off some of the top shoots so that it would get stronger lower leaves.  After it got about 20 inches tall, we nipped off the top, and now a few weeks later the top half of the trunk is showing signs of what I can only assume is infection. The bottom of the stalk/trunk is quite strong and stiff - as are the 6 or so leaves coming from it.  Above that, where the newer leaves are, the stalk is mottled with 2-5mm long dark spots running vertically, and all the leaves in the area with the spots are paper thin, slightly translucent, and very weak.  On top of them they have a waxy shiny sheen, where the healthy leaves do not.  The healthy leaves are quite erect sideways, opaque, and vibrant dark green -  while the weaker leaves droop almost vertical, are translucent, and lighter in colour. Is it an infection?  Is there anything I need to worry about?  Is there anything I can actually do? Pictures:  1) Good bottom 1/3 section 2) mottled middle 1/3 section 3) mottled top 1/3 section

The save button in deactivated in Acura 15.04.6

I am trying to export a G-Code from Acura I noticed when I loaded the file, starts processing and at some point it stops. I can see the support material did not finish processing and the top portion is not complete. Then I make changes to the settings I increased the height of the layer and reduced the density. In other words is a lighter density overall. If i decrease this a lot, Then the software manages to finish the set up proces and the save button comback active to export Gcode.Seems like the large data of the higer density settings runs out of Disk space to create the cash.Does anyone know how can I fix this problem?I remember when I work in Adobe after effects editing videos, the software ask me to reserve a dedicated folder with an specific disk space just for cash, when this folder is full, the software ask you to empty the temporary cash files to make more disk space for more projects.Does anyone know how i fix the space disk or what ever i need to do to allow the software to finish procesing with higher density? Please helpYou can email me to gamelicruz@gmail.comThanks

Alternative power source for power-tool enhancement design project? Answered

Hi this is my first post here :-) I'm a Design student in London currently researching power-tools. I've made this really crude prototype of a system that looks at enhancing the vibration of a power-drill by vibrating the user as they pull the trigger on the power-drill. It consists of a 12v 55AH car battery running through a 300watt 12v to 230v inverter which in turn powers a cheap 135watt 230volt orbital sander. It's all mounted to a British Army paratrooper clansman radio pack frame and has a very crude wooden arm with a temp on/off toggle switch mounted inside a vitamin c bottle :-) and tapped with gaffa tape, very much bricolage.... I used what I had to hand and what was cheap, i know it's not safe (yet) but i'd like some opinions on alternative smaller and lighter power sources? I know I could just use cordless sanders but there expensive and i need multiple units 2-3 and as this is only a small part of what I'm doing so cost is an issue. I'm considering looking at cheap 12v battery packs from cordless drills but don't fancy using lithium and blowing myself up? All suggestions and opinions appreciated! Thanks James

23 stage no-capacitor full auto coilgun

*********I have updated my design since posting this topic. The video is the more current design than what is written below.**********    I came to the conclusion that using capacitors to provide the power for a coil gun is a stupid idea. A bold statement I know. The reason is that they are big and heavy, take time to charge, and need charging circuits. Also, the sharp rise in current that comes from capacitors is bad unless you are making an induction style coilgun, because the induced currents will hurt efficiency.    If coil guns are ever going to be a practical hand held weapon it will need to be lighter, simpler / less delicate, and more powerful than what you will find on the internet if you look up coil guns. A rate of fire that is competitive with conventional guns will also be needed if a coil gun will be used for anything other than target shooting or maybe hobby hunting. So I designed a coilgun to meet these requirements. Visit my website for a full explanation of the design: http://www.ourbadscience.com/#!em-guns/cwjy     I realized that a coilgun would not be a practical infantry weapon until batteries are more advanced anyway, so that just adds to the list of why capacitors are out. It will be powered directly off of the batteries, and have many coil stages. This allows a very high rate of fire. To get that rate of fire with capacitors you would need several capacitor banks charging at offset times, so after each bank fires another is just finished charging. That would be terribly bulky.    The lower voltage from the batteries will give comparatively slow current rise in the coils which normally would make the coil timing weird. I plan to use an unconventional coil timing though. All the coils will be activated at once, and the coils behind the projectile will be shut off as it passes them. This will have several advantages: -The coils will only be powering up for a split second at the beginning. Most coils will already be at full power when the projectile gets to them (that is not the case in most coil guns). -Induced current will not be any issue. -Since the coils will all act as one coil, the projectile will be drawn toward the center of all the coils that are on. Timing of the shut off of the coils will not need to be perfect.    This will be a pre-tuned passively timed system. I want to use a small adjustable electronic timer for the switch-off timing. This will require some work in the initial adjustment of the timing, but even actively switched coil guns (with optical sensors or something) require that. the advantage of a passive system over an active system is cost and simplicity, and you can pack the coils tighter on the barrel if you are not putting a sensor between each stage. That matters with 23 stages! As I said check out my website to see more details and pictures for this and other projects: http://www.ourbadscience.com/#!em-guns/cwjy
