Hello, I have two motors and a battery out of a power wheels truck. I was wanting to mount it to my Chopper bike. Has anybody  done that and if so give me some advice P.S.  My bike has no gears and it has no pedal brakes.

Rugged motors?

Does anybody know of a source of motors that are rugged enough to survive long-term* on the surf-line of a beach?  They wouldn't need to survive flying rocks, but saltwater and sand proof would be good. The plan is to use them in reverse, as generators, so DC is preferable. *In the first instance, "long term" means "more than half an hour".

Electric Motors?

Can a 3/4 HP electric motor ( from an old garage door opener ) have enough power to be put in a bike and get at least 10 MPH out of it. Also what batteries should i use, i think i have an 18v or 16v battery somewhere..

DC Motor

Hi Guys, I have a 15.6 volt dc motor taken out of a handheld vacuum cleaner. is this suitable to use in a small wind generator as a project with my kids. when i attach it to a power drill and spin it from the shaft i dont seem to get any power generation. Table Fan Motor for Motorized Bicycle

Hello everyone, I was think of turning a normal bicycle into a motorized one. Will taking the motor from an ordinary Table Fan and attaching it to the bike work? I'm planning on running it off a car battery. Any suggestions are welcome :D

I was wondering if there are any substitutes for motor oil that are not petroleum based. I am looking for an oil from a sustainable resource that is relatively cheap.

Small motor overheat

On HVAC evap fan motor at 120 Vac no load motor overheat then feedback pulse stop working 5178 pulses / min divided by 4 = 1294.5 rpm shall turn at 1350 + - 20 rpm what make the motor to overheat ? the unit had a power surge when lightning can it be saved ?

Induction Motor Help?

Hi guys i have come across an induction motor out of a treadmill. it states on the lable that its single phase induction, 240 volt, 4 poles 3/4 hp. 1.7 amp 1420 rpm. question 1- is there any safe way to see if it works question 2 - can it be used for a small wind generator to charge 12volt batteries to light a shed question 3 - is best put in the trash where it came from any assistance advice would be appreciated

Run a generator with a motor

I have a 1.5kva gas engine generator but the engine part broke down. I opened it up to see if it can be fixed but the cam and the piston were shredded to pieces. I tried to run the generator part to see if it still works by hooking it up to an angle grinder via pulleys and a belt. It did work but the grinder only lasted half an hour. What better ways can i run this generator off of? What motor can i use to take the place of that broken engine? The engine speed is 3600 rpm.

The Newman Motor Challenge !

I was recently approached by someone claiming the old Newman Motor wouldn't be good for anything.Well, I was a little bit offended by this as I already had my little toy version of it as kid.At that time though it really was just a toy for me.Critics still say the Newman Motor is nothing more than some interesting machine.And even the biggest followers will admit it is not a free energy machine, just a very efficient one.I experimented with, what some call fringe science, now for about 30 years.And it all started with math and my interest in unusual ways of dealing with problems.So what's behind the challenge?The original design was suprisingly simple as you can see in the above Wiki link.Just a spinning magnet in a (split) coil.What you don't find anywhere though is real details on the how to.Sure, you need to have some sort of contact linked to the rotation and timing is critical but what does it all do?You can build a drt simple model in a few hours with stuff you might have around already.Quite a few Youtubers are happy to share their creations.The actual challenge is to come up with what Newman really did inside his drum.And also why I think it is not the full potential his machine had.Build a simple Newman motor and check for how long you can let it run on a charge super capacitor.Then sit back and read some of the other magnet stuff I wrote.After that come up with a better design ;)I started to create some 3D models that need testing once I find more free time - should take some leave one day..But for those with little patience and an interest in the Newman Motor I decided to share my current idea:For some it might be really confusing although they know motors and magnetic fields.Those just playing with magnets might have it easier for once as they can pretend they followed my thoughts ;)The original design used two coils and a rotating magnet.If you consider how the magnet creates an electromagntic field in the coils then you have to wonder right away how it can spin.And most designs will indeed need a push start to get going!You can't have electricity produced without the magnet spinning and you can't make it spin without electricity!The current from the battery or capacitor can only flow at the short moment of contact on the axle.This moment needs to be timed "mechanical" as we don't want to waste any power on not required electronics.If you ever bothered to check the timing of a Newman Motor then you realised the collapsing electromagnetic field at the moment of contact actually is in reverse to what the manget has in that position.Unlike any normal motor it means the magnet produces most of the power the coil needs to make the rotor spin!So far for the well known facts, now for my fiction:I would like to call my version the Aussie Newman Motor as all things downunder are just different ;)Here are my current desing mods, that I freely share so everyone can benefit form many years of experimenting to save a lot of time.1. Instead of two coils a not-really-bifilar coil is centered on the axle.The coil is created like two stacked relay coild that have no bobbin and a "dint" to allow the axle to pass through.Without the big gap of the original less of the magnetic field strenght is lost and the coil is far closer to a homogenous magnet.2. The timing done by salvaging a simple DC motor's contacts and brushes.This allows for far higher currents and if the salvaged motor had enough poles also for a very short "burst".3. The axle contact is made with a cleaned steel bearing.After cleaning very conductive copper based lubricant is used in tiny amounts to prevent corrosion and provide a lower resistance.The clear benefit is that with the new timing system a lot more current can flow.Initial tests with a mock up model showed an increase in run time from the capacitor of about 15% already.With proper bearings and a salvaged DC motor I hope to reach 18 to 20% more than the original design.Now why the DC motor if a reed contact or hall effect sensor would be even faster and with less resistence?Neither can handle really high currents without additional electronics ;)Plus of course I wanted to leave the door open for the Aussie Newman Motor 2020.You might now say "Why bother if the above improvements are already so great?".If you followed my elsewhere for a while then you know the Newman Motor is only 2D but I prefer 3D or more harmony if you like.Right now the imagination of people re-inventing Newman's machine is limited.They try to get on the horse from behind - literally.Fancy electronics, machined parts and so on.But they never go 3D ;)You got it? :)There is only two coils!!The magnet rotates, same as the contact on the axle.One set of coils for each contact the salvaged DC motor has.Each set aligend to the corresponding contact.And now you will ask "How do you plan to connect that to a single DC power source?Well, that is why it will be the 2020 model - my time for tinkering is sadly limited because I still need to work to support myself.But if you consider that the original as a good model can run for over 10 minutes on a supercapcitor then ask yourself how long it could run on 4 or even 8 coil sets.And although there is no such thing as "free energy": There will be still space for more coils.Or other coils to just provide electricity that does not power the motor.Critics will now see their chance and state that if we add a load to these additional coils then this will cause a strain on the system.Of course they are correct here.If, however, the load is mechanical then the motor needs to supply basically the same additional energy.Plus all mechanical losses.The question is: How much mechanical load can we add before the motor is down to the same efficiency of a very efficient DC motor? ;)And what if our Aussie Newman 2020 would actually violate the laws of physics?We can calculate how much electrical energy would be required so a given motor produces a fixed amount of torque.Or we can just measure it, the beauty of science...We can do the same in reverse of course.Let's say a mechanical pump would require 500RPM and 100Nm of torque to pump 100 liters per minute.Then we could calculate what sized motor we need to drive the thing and how much power the motor would need.So again: What if the Aussie Newman 2020 would require far less than what science makes us think and still does this job on a simple 12V lead acid batty of 4Ah?Just saying... ;)I hope to have a presentable and working 2 coil system by May, so stay tuned!In case you are faster or even beter then of course feel free to show off your results or to post a link to your Instructable so everyone can verify it.

my motor does not work ?

I have made a motor but it just does not work. I wrapped 0,25 mm sq copper wire 300 times around a magnet. And i connect the beginning and the end of the wire with some copper so that electricity can go through ( i do not know if it is right or wrong ). I tried to put on some batteries, i even tried to connect the wire to the electric socket but it does not work, either. What have i done wrong ? thanks a lots

Kenmore Dryer Motor Question?

I have a used kenmore  dryer motor part # 8066206 model s58nxnbg-7004 that I would like to use for something else and was wondering  if I could wire a plug to it.  From left to right on the terminal block there is numbers 2 6 4 3 5 1.  Im not to sure where to hook up the hot wire and where to hook up the nuetral wire.

So, I'm fairly new to electric motors. I salvaged a motor from a vacuum. I know that they have high torque. I'm just wondering what kind of weight they could move. For example, if I weigh 225, would it be able to pull me on a go kart?  Thank you!

Hi everyone, I'm wondering how I could make a motor (with a 4mm shaft diameter) turn a 1/4 in. metal rod. I'm planning on supporting one end of the rod in a piece of wood, and the other of the end will be attached to the motor so that when the motor spins, the rod also spins in the wood.

Electric Motor Tricycle 6V4.5Ah

I bought a riding toy for my son and it's cool, but it doesn't have enough power sometimes.  It's fast enough in the house, but it gets stuck outside.  The plastic wheels tend to slip on rough surfaces and inclines, but I can address that issue at the wheels/tires to some degree.  However, the battery that came with it is a 6V4.5AH/20HR sealed lead-acid rechargeable battery (It has F1 contacts, so unless I change or adapt the wires/connectors, I think I need to stick with a battery that has these).  The AC-DC adapter has 6V DC 500mA output, but I think I could get a UNIVERSAL AC DC ADAPTER {1.5V 3V 4.5V 6V 9V 12V 500mA} that would work with a new battery. I'm hoping that I can increase the power noticeably but safely.  One constraint is the width of the battery area inside the "engine" compartment.  It fits the present battery (1.75 x 2.75 x 4), but I'll have to mod the compartment to fit a replacement that's more than slightly bigger. I've seen some 12V4.5AH batteries online, but most are larger in every dimension. Am I even on the right track thinking a higher voltage battery is what I need?  Could I use an NiMH or Li battery/batteries instead? What's the easiest, safest, cheapest route for this mod? Current Consumtion by a DC Motor?

 I am asking few questions EV related, more current related. Let a consider a dc motor rated 4hp at 24v and 2hp at 12v. So is there a way to calculate ampere draw of the motor at various loads.(like no load, full load, or any load). And if we know the full load current of the dc motor then can we calculate the max load for the dc motor. Next as the dc motor is 2hp at 12v then will this value be constant or will the motor be able to produce 4hp at 12v even rather than at 24v. And will a battery eg 50ah be able to supply more then 50amp.

Motorbike starter motor on a Scooter?

Hello! I changed the starter motor on my bike some years ago, and this motor is laying around in my garage since then, working! I always wanted to build an electric vehicle, and i would like to start with an electric scooter! My questions are:  1. Would the motor work and run on a scooter? 2. how much would the battery last? I plan to use a normal motorbike battery, i dont know much in electronics, they are 12V and 10-70Ah 3. will the motor heat up and burn? 4. what range would it have? The motor in question is a Mitsuba, aftermarket mounted on my bike a Honda CR 250 if this helps. Thanks in advance!

power tool brushless motor

I want to replace the motor in my dremel for a brushless one and i just need some help in deciding which one to get. I also want to possibly upgrade the motor in my drill. The drill is only used for wood and i don't mind if either the drill or the dremel needs some kind of gearbox to get the most power from it. It would also be nice to know something about larger brushless motors as there doesn't seem to be much about them on the internet. Thanks in advance.

Electric vehicle motor selection

As any one who has looked at my instructables knows whilst a school teacher I built a full sized electric racing car.https://www.instructables.com/id/Building-an-elect...This had a 250 watt DC motor over run to 500 watts - 20 amps at 24 volts .It was capable of running the car up to 25 - 30 MPH and using 2 car batteries drive for a couple of hours on the flat.Nowadays electric vehicles are all the rage. Looking at a few motores as small as 4000 watts are in use for city use where high speed isn't necessary.Now the question:https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-c580l-580kv-br...This motor intended for model cars is rated at 4000 watts RPM 26,100 100 amps at 45 volts. that's about 5.5 Hp.Suitably gears down could such a motor be a power unit for a light weight electric vehicle.The DC motor I used was, by comparison, huge and weighty. It seems to me that HP is HP and 5.5. Hp is plenty for what I have in mind.My concerns as always is I see no other commercial manufacture doing this - or anyone else for that matter, only electric bikes use small motors.There has to be a reason I am not catching.Experts out there you opinion please.

recycling broken AC motors?

I love demolishing things for parts. Often a broken AC motor is left over. Usually it contains a decent amount of copper. But the copper is mostly deeply embedded in iron (a core or a ring around it made out of stacked steel plate). Since it has been put inside the iron there must be a method to take it out. Copper prices are very high. If it can be separated quickly without melting the whole thing down, I would consider doing this myself. How?

Series Hybrid Motorized Bike

I am designing a system to motorize my bike, but I really don't have enough money for it. I have been thinking I would like to use this engine for quite a while, because it's cheap, light, and OHC. There is a centrifugal clutch for it, but it costs $85, so I've been trying to design a series hybrid system instead. Considering that these motors cost only $6, it seems perfectly feasible to make something cheaper this way, but there are ways I can think of to possibly make it even cheaper. Here comes the technical part: my original design has two of the motors hooked up to the engine at double speed as generators, making 12v. Then there would be two more of these motors traction-driving the rear wheel. The problem with this is that the gear reduction is expensive. My new design has the engine directly driving only one generator, making only 6v so that I would have to have as many as 8 motors driving the wheel (opportunity for AWD?) to pull enough current to get full power out of the engine. Here's the problem: I don't know if the generator will be able to handle that current draw. Considering it would only have to do it for a couple seconds, do you think that one of these motors (working as a generator) could handle 400 amps surge? Other information: this will not see much low-speed operation. Geared to top out at about 25mph, it will probably spend most of it's time going 10-20.

Pickle Boat with 49cc motor?

Making a pickle boat for the kid.  Boat is made out of PVC and 55 gallon plastic barrel.  I've got a 49cc two stroke engine laying around I want to throw on it.  It's one of those motors that come off a pocket bike or stand up gas scooter. Anyhow, any thoughts on how to use it. I'd like to do a direct drive propulsion setup but I don't know what size propeller I would use. I could make a trolling motor out of it but I don't imagine it would work to well without stalling the motor.  I'm sure it would rust out as well.  So my questions...... 49cc two stroke motor, what size prop do I use for a propulsion (fan) like setup? If I put it under water, what size prop do I use for that?   Links would be amazing.  Thanks guys!

possible ac motor generator?

Anybody tried machining strong magnets into the armature of say 10 or 20 hp 3 phase motor. do not  know the output if any but if so then running through a transformer that might have output  of  220 that is actually useable for living, working in a garage. i understand it would have to be overdriven  possibly by multiple blades for torque to reach the ness speed. just curious if you think it might work or not be worth the effort. this is a new field for me.

Mount a bike motor to a surfboard

I was wondering if anyone would have any advice on mounting a 50cc bike motor onto a surfboard? I don't really have any power tool, but I might be able to grab a few simple ones; Was thinking this might be a cool way to get around town instead of investing in a car or just hooking it up to a bike. oh and is there any factors to consider in a surfboard when making this? Or should I make more of a really large skateboard type of thing and just mount everything to that? Thanks!

AC Pump Motor Not Working? Answered

I have just come across a free pool pump and hope I will be able to get it up and running.  So far I have had absolutely no luck with it.  The run switch seems to work and so I don't think it is the culprit.  I have even tried two newish capacitors which I know work.  When I plug it in it just hums.  It doesn't throw the breaker so I don't think a short is the problem and it isn't bound up as I can turn it easily by hand.  There is also no sign of twitching as the motor attempts to start.  The overpower protection switch seems to be good and shows continuity across all polls.  The motor itself has continuity where I believe it is necessary so I am at a loss for what could be wrong.  The motor says it is good for 115 volts as well as higher but I would prefer not to shove higher voltages through it if not necessary.  Do any of you have ideas on how I could get this up and running as the pump is in excellent condition and will be useful as a runoff booster pump.

Replacing motor in mobility scooter?

Hey all, I have a mobility scooter that I use for travel(caravaning among other). It's an Eloped Travel XL(40 kg or 88 lbs, 24V 22Ah battery), and I think it's only available in Sweden, but there are similar models all over the world.My scooter has got a 180w, 24v motor on a transaxle with integrated gearbox. The more I use it, the more frustrated I get. It's slow, 4mph/7 km/h, but worse, it really struggles uphill and sometimes it feels like its gonna stop all together. I've changed the batteries, with no improvement. It's not overheating. My guess is that it's just to weak. It might be ok to use when going to the shop or on flat surfaces, but not on gravel or grass.Anyway, I would like to replace the motor with a more powerful one, 350w or even 500w. The problem is that there isn't any compatible motors out there, so I'm guessing I'll have to replace the hole axle. I've been looking at these common China made electric motors that come in a range of sizes, have no idea about the quality though. Otherwise, maybe a powerful RC engine would work? I have no idea really, where to begin. Money is a concern unfortunately, otherwise I could buy a new transaxle or even a new, better scooter. Any ideas or help would be very appreciated! I'm quite handy but have never worked with these kind of parts before. How to pick the right sprockets, should I use chain or belt drive and so on.

Replacement suction motor housing?

I have a couple of motors and fans from domestic vacuum cleaners that got their casings damaged beyond(main user acceptable) repair. Having just started using a router, my next project has to be a cyclonic dust collector. Rather than used the current domestic vacuum I'd like to utilise one of the salvaged suction units, has any one got advice or suggestions on mounting/ design of a shop vac? As they were a quick salvage job on the way to the tip I didn't get much of a look at how things went together, filter arrangements etc

Electric bike motor help!

Helli guys.. after a long time racing motocross, I would like to experiment into doing an electric dirt bike for myself.. My plan is to find an 85 or 125cc frame with no engine, and build from that.. the biggest question is, what motor could I use that is no less than 15kw, and on the affordable side? I was looking at the Turnigy Rotomax 150cc eqiv. And it has a max power output at 9000 something watts, would that be any good for a motocross bike? Would it burn out quickly since its pretty small? Notes: i am strictly looking for powerful bikes, a 2kw bike is not for me since I am used to overpowered 250cc two stroke hell-born suicide machines, thanks..

230V 3 Phase Motor on 240V Single Phase Supply

Hi, I am a ME with very limited knowledge on electrical side of the world. I have ordered a electric motor from Germany with 240 V assuming it will be single phase. The motor has rocked up with 230 V winding but 3phase connections. Is there any chance I can connect this motor to our single phase supply???  Any device which will help to use this motor. Please help.

Not sure where to find a 60 to 120 rpm AC motor

I'd like to add a small motor to a hand cranked coffee grinder (Hario Skerton Coffee Grinder).  It's conical burr style grinder that produces a consistent particle size (much more so than the mini blender, whirlly style grinder).  I'll expand on why that's important when I build the thing.   My problem is that is takes 10 minutes or so to grind enough coffee for two people. I'd like to put a motor on it.  I tried spinning it with a battery powered drill, but the RPMs were too high.  The burr spun faster than coffee beans could feed.  I'd like a motor in the 60 to 120 rpm range.  I still need to determine the torque required.  Additionally, I'd like to plug this right in to a 110 outlet.  Does anyone have a suggestion on an appliance I could scavenge or the type of motor I should look to buy?   Thanks, Mike

What projects could I do with an industrial electric motor (1 to 7.5 HP)? Answered

My local Habitat for Humanity ReStore has a bunch of used Baldor Brand AC motors for $40. Power ranges from 1HP to 7.5 HP. It seems like a good deal since these things retail for a couple of hundred. I was wondering what I could use one of these for. Also, could I just wire one of these things up to a wall outlet to make it run, or would I need some kind of controller. What considerations should I take in picking which motor to buy? power? 3 phase vs 1 phase? etc?

is there a way to use a joystick from a ps2 controller to move a rc motor forward and reverse ?

 i just wont to know if i can use a  joystick  for forward and reverse on the motor i put a picture of the sort i meen  like useing it like a dtdp switch its for a electric telescope focuser im making i have it set up mag with 2 microswitches for forward and reverse but just wanted to see if i could solder one of the joystick in place and not the microswitches and without a  arduino if anyone can help that would be great thank you

How to use gear motor 9 with Arduino

I am new to robotics. I want to make a robot using Arduino Uno R3. I need to use Gear Motor 9 for that The problem is that motor needs 50mA current. But arduino only outputs only 40mA current. Best way to convert motor power to wheel power? Answered

I have a dolly cart and motor, and I want to motor to move the dolly cart as slowly as possible (It's already four RPM, but just take that into account in the method you recommend). I need one of the inner/vertical wheels to be spun by the motor. Both the cart and the motor are pictured below. I am using this for time-lapses, so it should be as consistent as possible. What is the best way to connect the two parts so the motor spins one of the wheels?

Making a large electric motor from scratch

What I want to do is to make a fairly large and powerful one(say, somewhere around the size of a coffee can). This is for asculpture project, and the motor will be driving a kinetic mechanism.I'm pretty handy, have a extensive range of tools and am comfortableworking with high voltage. What I am not, however, is knowledgeableabout designing or making electric motors; hence my questions.I understand that I'll need to wind armatures and so forth, but Idon't know what the advantages/disadvantages would be of making a DCversus an AC motor (either power could be supplied), nor do I reallyunderstand the differences between the various types of those two. Themotor needs to be able to start by itself under load (as opposed tosome homemade electric motors that seem to need a nudge to get going).Simplicity, low maintenance and ease of construction would be a plus.I had thought of making a homopolar motor such as they have at theExploratorium (http://www.exploratorium.edu/cmp/exnet/exhibits/group5/daisy/index.html) but it seems that homopolar motors like this cause considerable wearto the part that acts as a brush, which will work against my goal oflow maintenance. Unless...perhaps I could use a rolling conductor (like a precision bearing) as a brush? Does that make any sense?Thanks for any advice!

Is repairing a burned tool/drill motor easy?

I assume this applies to all tools. So, I have a burned out grinder motor (wires). The spining axle 'thing' looks fine. Can't I just re-wound those wires on outer ring of the motor and reconnenct it (good as new?) also I may have scraped (with pliers) the replacement/wounded copper wire when bending it away from center . Will I need to rewind it with another set of wire....have I ruin it given there's some sort of non-conductive coating on the copper wire which I scratched off. I would appreciate any specific advice on reconnecting the power source wires to the wire/magnetic field area as well. Or should I just spend $200 on a new one :)

Can I power a motor off a solar 12v cell?

Hi, I have a 12v, 0.5 watt solar cell and wanted to use it to power a motor without the use of rechargeable batteries. Basically, when the sun is shining, the motor is spinning. I have a few small motors lying around and tried to hook them straight up but none of them would turn (even though some of these will run off a 1.2v AAA battery). I'm guessing maybe there aren't enough amps to power the motor so I was wondering if there was any way to bring down the voltage and increase the amps so that it might work? Thanks.

how can i run dc motor with specific criterias as per detail?

1) the motor should move forward for cirtain RPM then STOP when supply is on. 2) the motor should move reverse with exact same RPM then STOP when supply CUT OFF. the supply volage is 230V the motor is 12V DC.
