I am in serious NEED of information on HOW TO TURN PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES INTO SMALL BRICKS, BLOCKS, TUBES. I am moving to a very poor island where I need to bring this process to the islanders. The horrible poverty is now compounded even worse by all the plastic on the island that that has NO WHERE to go (the government does nothing). If I can find a way to do the above, in a very small, rough manner (IE: men using machetes' to chop up bottles) it will IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS OF HURTING PEOPLE. Thank you in advance for helping me to help them....I will take ALL I CAN GET. Selling my lake home in Wisconsin this summer and will be gone for good by Fall 2009. is there anyone that can make a machine to chamfer edges on polystyrene cake dummies ? Answered

We are struggling to find someone to help us make a perfect cake dummy made from polystyrene, we can cut the circles out no problem at all but cannot seem to get a perfect edge around the dummy, Have tried hot wire and a heated aluminium block but quality is poor. Maybe a router or a milling machine?

My halfstack squeals. Help pleasee?

So. I have a halfstack. I dont know too much about it but here's what i know: It has a Crate Amp head and a Peavy Cabinet.  when i turn the volume on the front higher that about 2, the amp audibly hums, loud enough that it would make this a poor idea to use on stage. any ideas on why this is happening or how much it'll take to fix it?

wich material or substance shoud i use to mold and make Panpipe

Greeting sorry for my poor english... i want to mold and make panflute like this one: click i'v already made it from wood and molded it with silicon. now, the problem is, since this panflute has contact with lip and mouth, so it shoud be made of a hygienic material wich is harmless for health. this material shoud also have an acoustic mod, like wood or bamboo to some degree. so please tell me wich resin, epoxy or materials shoud  use? cheers

Is it possible to electroplate carbon fiber? Answered

Hi, I'm into knifemaking. There are some carbon fiber knives on the market, but they all have very poor edge retention. (because the edge is made of carbon fiber as well) I was wondering if it would be possible to add a thick metal coating of a hard metal to a carbon structural center, as to coat the blade in a thin layer of metal. This metal would then be serving as the cutting edge, hopefully with better edge retention.  Is this at all possible? What types of metal could be used? Thanks in advance!

Does anybody knows the pinout of the steering harness on a 1989 GMC SIERRA ?

Hello, "Somebody" tried to steal my truck last night. He/They broke sliding rear window and destroyed the ignition switch on my poor truck. He/They bent the rod that goes to the "Steering Switch Harness". So I can Replace the whole steering column, or make a "Hidden key-less push-button ignition switch" But I don't know the wiring pin-out of the steering harness. I desperately need help with this. ELECTRONICS: PLEASE HELP - Plant moisture sensor not working - or is it me???

Can anybody PLEASE help, I am in the UK and eager to grow melons next spring. I need to know when the roots of the tub need water so decided to make a moisture sensor. I found a ‘plan’ online, bought about £20 of components (I need to make  two sensors) and have spent all afternoon TRYING to get the online schematic to work. One attempt was connected via a circuit board and the other in air connections. Neither attempt works, the LED comes on on both attempts but does not go out when the terminal probes are put in water, as they would when the plant roots are moist. i enclose the original internet schematic and a (poor) picture of my ‘‘air connection’ version....should this plan work? And if so, why isn’t it? thanks in anticipation

A car just ran over my skateboard...

Yeah..... My friend came over and was riding my skateboardand he went up my driveway (which is a slight incline upwards) and tripped,which sent the skateboard out from under him and back down the driveway and into the street were a car who was just driving by at the exact same instant drove by and went right over my skateboard!!This all happened so fast that i didn't have time to jump and save my poor baby from that car. =(Oh well at least me or my friend didn't get run over. I'm not really mad at him, I am more mad at the driver who just kept on going after he had just run my skateboard over!!! Oh well i will just have to get a new deck. I will hang the snapped deck on my wall though.

How can I move a 12 foot by 24 foot shed?

I have a 12 foot by 24 foot shed that I need to move away from my house, its just too close. I just want to move it about 7 feet and forward. The floor joist are 2"x 6". I want to move the shed North (literately) and the joist are running East/West, thats good so far, as I intend to use 3 pieces of 2" x 10" running the full 24 feet North and South. Now here's the problem... Its heavy and I dont know what I could use to roll it on. I was thinking about using 4" PVC pipe schedule 40 (or 80). I just want some feed back before I do this. Cost is an issue here... dont forget Im doing a " for the poor man " series BloFish

Gravity Feed Central Heating 22mmx2 28mmx2? Answered

Hi All, mate of ours drained his heating as he was extending a kitchen rad, long story short when he came to fill it up again no flow from the gravity CH tank in the loft down to the boiler, tried sucking on the rads to get flow cracked pipes open and all sorts, he knows there is an issue with air locks in the system as he has them a couple of times, he had a power flush about 5 months ago to eliminate sludge so shouldn't be that, looking at the lay out of the house it looks like the pipework is an issue due to floor levels being all over up and down! so my question is would installing a second pump at the side of the header tank in the loft force water through and back up the boiler escape be a good idea for this on going problem, he's brassy so new install or referb of the system is a long way away, poor blokes house is freezing, thanks in advance for any reply and suggestions before I go round tonight to have another go, Cheers Matt

Choosing my 1st 3d printer

So I have been considering to purchaser my own home 3d printer for a while now, but I am not sure which go for as I am happy to spend around about 500Euros or so on a 3D printer but I would prefer one that can use at least 2 colours. I would mainly be using it to create still like little figurines and statues. I have enough skills in 3d modeling that I don't need a store or 3d model assets but that would be nice. tho I am use you can use any 3d model files that you can download online. I came across this one for $100!methods/cjg9 I was using this website to look for affordable 3d printers But I guess what I also want to ask isn't just what are peoples suggest 3d printer to choose from but also what things should I look out for when buying one such as maybe special filament used or poor quality 3d prints noise problems or slow speed?? so any suggestions what ones to go for or what ones to stay away from Many thanks.

Solvent that 100% dissolves gorilla glue? need castable material to chemically to "burn out" for a ceramic shell casting Answered

Hello. I am working on doing an aluminium lost foam casting of a small part. I read although hazardous, some had gotten successful results from using polyurethane foam (great stuff) in a mold, and proceeding as usual. I don't normally use great stuff, so I mixed gorilla glue with 1/3 water, stirred till I had small bubbles, poured into a silicone mold, and got a pretty good few castings that were VERY dense and hardly burned at all. In fact it was practically fire resistant. I threw it on hot coals and it took a long time to shrivel into a hard little mass So next time, I used dollar store foam board next, a la Grant Thompson, but with terrible failures. It seemed the foam board didn't burn very well either. A foam board riser had actually melted off and looked like it floated away in a bubble, although a regular styrofoam block I had cut to shape cast perfectly, but was too thick and the texture was too poor as the foam was so much less dense. It was mentioned in this blog post that someone used acetone to burnout a tricky patten for a lost foam casting, so I figure I have to do the same. My pattern is curing at the moment. But my silicone molds are far more precise and more detailed than my 2d representation I made with a wire cutter. So my question is there another material that is castable but water resistant, like styrofoam, that I could use a solvent to melt out. I can't really do  lost wax because I don't have the equipment and live in an apartment and have to do this stuff out on the beach. Also due to family reasons I can't be away from home for the time it takes to do burnouts, 6 hours for a full flask, but that's also the reason why I am doing the shell casting because I can't spend too much time away from the fam. Device Worn on Tongue Allows the Blind to See

For the past 10 years researchers at the University of Wisconsin have been working on making a device that delivers censorial input to the tongue via a matrix of electrodes worn inside the mouth. Using a camera, a computer, and the input device, individuals who have been blind their whole lives are now able to use this relatively simple and non-invasive device to see basic images. Applications for this technology range far and wide, not to mention all the awesome ideas for Instructables that come to mind. More info from the research page...What we have developed is a generic and flexible way to communicate information to people using an array or matrix of small electric stimulators on the surface of the tongue. In much the same way that people can use their fingertips to read Braille letters, which are patterns of raised dots embossed onto a sheet of paper, people can recognize simple spatial patterns using comfortable electrical stimulation of the tongue. For example, we published a preliminary study about two years ago showing that volunteer experimental test subjects could identify very simple geometric patterns such as circles, squares, and triangles. They identified these figures as accurately on the tongue as on the fingertips. And that's when we became excited about the possibilities for a tongue-based electrotactile display, electrotactile being the technical term for electrical stimulation of the sense of touch.The electrical stimulus on the tongue feels like a tingle or vibration; some users have said it feels like soda bubbles. The sensation is well-controlled and not painful unless the user deliberately turns up the level too high. Occasionally it will produce weak metallic taste sensations, a minor side effect. We have never observed any kind of tissue irritation with the gold-plated electrodes.1. One of the applications which has been commercialized is providing vestibular or balance information for people with balance disorders. This is a simple form of sensory substitution, in which the tongue is used to present information from an artificial balance sensor.2. Another application is providing directional or navigational information for people who operate under central command and control scenarios, such as military and civilian rescue personnel. Providing information via the tongue allows them to fully use their vision and hearing to respond to unforeseen threats or hazards. We have shown in the laboratory that it is possible to navigate a virtual maze (like a simple video game) using only information received on the tongue (i.e., buzz on right side of tongue means turn right, etc.).3. A third, more ambitious application would be providing very crude visual information through the tongue for persons who are completely blind. Our colleague Eliana Sampaio at the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg, France has used our tongue stimulator with a small video camera and demonstrated an equivalent visual acuity of about 20-to-830, which is very poor vision, but possibly useful for certain limited activities with enough practice. Wicab, Inc continues to improve this technology with the aim of commercializing it.4. A fourth application would be providing tactile feedback to the human operators of robots used for various tasks. Converting gravitational potential energy into air pressure to launch a projectile?

Hello my name is Aaron! I am a high school senior from northeastern Kentucky designing a pneumatic system of sorts for a science competition and need some help. I will be building a device that converts gravitational potential energy, from a falling mass, into air pressure (or possibly the movement of air depending on the design) to launch a projectile a specific distance (max distance needed is 8.25 m). What I am thinking about doing is using one double action pneumatic cylinder (DAPC) as a bellow in which a falling mass (max 3.500 kg at a max 90 cm) would strike its piston shaft, creating positive pressure within the system. With that positive pressure another DAPC’s piston would simultaneously strike our projectile sending it airborne in theory. Below there is an illustration of my idea, sorry about the poor quality. So what I need help determining is would this design work before I start buying parts? If so what approximate sizes should the two cylinders be and should they be different sizes to maximize the force exerted on the projectile? If you have any other ideas concerning the design or any questions about the project PLEASE feel free to share!!! Below are some of the design rules that pertain to this project along with some notes in italics about them. Thank you very much for your time in advance! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Description:    -Prior to competition, teams will design, construct, and calibrate a single device capable of launching projectiles into a target and collect data regarding device parameters and performance. Design Constraints:    -The launching force must be entirely supplied by the gravitational potential energy from a falling mass less than or equal to 3.500 kg. Any device part whose potential energy decreases and provides launch energy is considered part of the mass. The mass may consist of multiple discrete parts, which together count as the total mass.    -During each launch, the gravitational potential energy must be converted to air pressure or air movement, which is then used to launch the projectile, either directly (e.g., pop gun style, etc.) or indirectly (e.g., using a pneumatic cylinder to swing an arm, etc.) All device air chambers must start at ambient air pressure and must automatically return to ambient air pressure.    -The launching device (would look similar to this with the adjustable angle to accommodate different ranges), including the projectile and all components, must fit within a 75.0 cm x 75.0 cm x 1.00 m box in ready-to-launch configuration, in any orientation chosen by the team. Weights used to stabilize the device must be within the box.    -The triggering device (would look something like this except elevated with a mass suspended ready to be released) in not considered part of the device and must not contribute energy to the launch. It must extend out of the launch area, allow for the competitors to remain at least 1.00 m away from the launch area, and does not need to return to the launch area after launch. The triggering device must not pose a danger to anyone due to flying parts or excessive movement outside the launch area.    -Teams must provide unmodified tennis, racquet, ping pong, and/or plastic practice golf balls to be used as projectiles. Teams may change projectiles for each launch.    -The launching device must be designed and operated in such a way to not damage or alter the floor.    -Electrical components are not allowed as part of the device or triggering device. The Competition:    -Two targets, designated by small marks on tape on the floor or panels lying on the floor, must be placed in front of and centered on an imaginary line parallel to the launch direction that bisects the launch are. Supervisors are encouraged to place sand, cat litter, or similar substance in the area around the targets to help indicate landing spots.    -The targets must be placed in front of the launch area at distances between 2.00 m and 8.00 m (in intervals of 10 cm). A distance of at least 2.00 m must separate the targets. Target distances must not be announced until after impound is over and must be the same for all teams. Room ceiling height should be considered when setting the distances.
