ok well im trying to paint my controller but im at a roadblock the screws have a little dot in the center preventing me from taking it apart PLEASE HELP
to get the screws you can uae a 2mm flat head screwdriver and if they break use a allen wrench. thats how i did it. im going to post pictures of mine when its done.
You will need a T8 screwdriver which you can get at any hardware store and a flat head screwdriver. You have to use the flathead to break the pin in the center. After all the pins are broken you can open it with a T8 screw driver. Or, you can order a Security Torx T8 from Amazon or Ebay.
Or just use a very small(jeweler's/watchmaker's) screwdriver.
Nice! What kind of paint do you use for painting the controllers?
can i just use a flathead and then take the top and bottom off and everything will still be there???   This way it would be easier or will i have to take other stuff off.   Will stuff just like fall out or what??? i would like to get started on this project next week..??
I used red paint with crystal clear enamel and the paint came off and onto my hands when i sweated!! Why is this?
Use paint made for Vinyl it won't wear off the plastic
if you use vinyl dye, do you still need a clearcoat? also, will your hands smell like paint from using the controller?
I don't use clear coat I like the look of original. Thats what you will get with the vinyl dye. I guess you could use clear coat I have never tried it. I have never noticed the a paint smell on my hands yet.
So the dye isnt really coating the plastic, but is absorbed into it? interesting.. does that mean that using blue dye on red plastic will end with purple or still blue.
I have never had a red controller only white and black white i paint black
any paint that says vinyl dye will work make sure it doesn't say vinyl coating if it does it will wear off with hands they always put it in small print.
What kind of finish did you use, and how are the results holding up to hand wear? I painted mine with Krylon for plastics (which is supposed to bond and not wear off) but it's peeling off bad where my hands touch it on the bottom. It's possible it could be because of surface prep (I cleaned it, but not with acetone or anything) but I'm thinking of trying again. What finish did you use as the topcoat, and how does it feel? does it wear well / get sticky etc?
try sanding and whiping down controller before painting so paint will stick better
ok i use all valspar starting with a very thin coat of primer around staied spots then i use valspar plastic spray paint let it dry very good before using sealer like 24-36 hours then put about 7 thin coats of valspar spray sealer in gloss, matte or dull depends on what you are trying to do with it. let it set at least 24 hours before turning it over do do other side when done with finish/sealer let set in a undisturbed place for a bout 3 days to let the finish/sealer cure. you don't have to use valsper but look for WATER PROFF finish/sealer even know you don't think so you hands sweat on the controller causing all paint to get wet if you finish/sealer is not cured it will have the same effect this time if you have no luck with it you can buy one from me
