This toy can be switched on and off with a small switch on the back of the robot which will be challenging for a person dealing with a motor delay or disability. To make it accessible, a large brightly colored external button will be added that will activate the toy.

Supplies

To adapt this toy you will need:

Toysery Bot Robot Pioneer with Colorful Lights and Music
Jelly Bean switch from AbleNet
Phillips head screwdriver
3.5mm Mono TS Female Jack Socket
Two short small gauge wires
Solder iron and solder
Drill with a 1/4" drill bit

Step 1: Expose Switch

Remove all six screws from the body using a Phillips head screwdriver. Since the body will not completely separate due to a retaining clip in the front, gentlly separate the back of the robot and remove the switch to expose the wires.

Step 2: Add Female Mono Jack

Solder a wire to each of the leads on the back of the switch. Then solder the other end of those wires to a 1/8” female mono jack.

Step 3: Install the Audio Jack

Choose where you want to feed the audio jack though the outer shell and drill a hole in this location. Feed the jack out and tighten the nut fixing it in place.

Step 4: Testing

Now that all of the wires are connected, test to see if the modifications you've made still allow the toy to function properly. Doing this before reassembling the toy will make it easier to identify and fix any problems you may find.
