Introduction: Beeline Velo Power Off Hardware Toggle Switch Hack

About: Repair, took apart everything.

The Beeline Velo is a simple and easy to use route-following device that's quick to set up and great if you're doing point-to-point rides and you're not sure of the way. Before the recent software updates there was an OFF funcion-but for some reason this function has been removed by the developer and therefore it is not available any more.

I saw this (https://www.thetawelle.de/?p=5873) project, but found it way too functional plus its destroying the neat, minimalist design of this beautiful device. Here comes my solution.

Supplies

Firts of all you will need a Beeline Velo device, a very small toggle switch, driller, plier, soldering iron, a bit of wires.

Step 1: Getting a Small Toggle Switch

Fortunately I had a broken Wilkinson "pocket-trimmer" which has a desired toggle on-off switch. Actually here comes half of my idea. You can try to scavange these switch from broken electric toothbrushes etc as well. Or buy one. Please note: the space inside is fierce!

Step 2: Inside the Beeline Velo

There is not much space to fit a switch. I removed the battery and looked for a suitable space to install it promtly.

Step 3: Insert a Switch

I removed a battery and cut the positive (red) wire and isoldered a switch to it.

Step 4: Space Testing

Put everything back and test again the position of the switch. Looks promising.

Step 5: Drill the Backplate

After carefully check the position of the head of the switch I made a mark on the backplate and first drilled with a 1,5 mm leader-hole then made a 6 mm diameter hole on the backplate to leave enough space to operating freely..

Step 6: Trimm the Switch

I carefully trimmed down the head of the switch to the level of the housing. Check and check again: If its bit too high: the silicone cover will push it randomly, too low: you will need a tool to press it. If it is in level: it will be fit into the silicone-frame as its supposed be, will be still pretty waterproof yet I can operate it by my fingernail easily.
