Introduction: Ben 10 Alien Force Omnitrix Prop Replica Cosplay

About: I hope you like my stuff

Alien Force Omnitrix from Alien Force I created

Supplies

8mm thick rubber sheet, 2mm thick rubber sheet a metal can, two small magnets, a metal rod and a green plastic sheet from a dvd case

Step 1: Paper Template

I used official concept art as my reference during the whole project but I had to decide on a size scale to start with. The material I had available was a 8mm thick rubber sheet leftover from a previous omnitrix I made, I held the thickness up to my computer screen and changed the size of my reference image until the thickness of the first layer of the omnitrix matched (the layer that's green with a black stripe running along it horizontally). Once I got the size to where I wanted it I held a piece of paper up to my screen and traced over it in pencil, then made a precise copy of that and cut them out to use as paper templates.

Step 2: Cutting the Rubber

After tracing around my paper stencil onto the rubber sheets I cut it out with a stanley blade (crafting blade) and sanded off the roughness with sandpaper. I used a hacksaw to cut the lines you see in the second image. To make the ring if you check the official concept art the width of the ring is the exact same as the width of the layer it sits upon so used the same thickness of rubber to make the ring and sanded the outer edge at an angle to get the slope for the dial and cut as much from the interior of the ring I could before sanded out the rest of the excess with medium grit sandpaper and a file.

Step 3: Basic Assembly and Details

For the metal dial I rolled the ring the rubber ring across a piece of paper on its slanted side and drew around it as I went to get a curved arch that wrapped around the outside of the ring to create the dial. For the inner ring of the dial I just measured the height of the ring and made a long straight rectangle. I then traced around my paper stencils onto a cut open drinks can. To made the hourglass shaped omnitrix symbol I decided to use the green hard plastic of a DVD case (secrets of the omnitrix was perfect) and did the same thing again, tracing around a paper stencil onto the plastic, cutting it apart with blade and sanding off the edges. I also forgot to take some photos here because the end was in sight and I rushed through some of the steps, but I got the metal rod from an old telescopic duster I had that happened to be the right size, I sawed it up into two small pieces for either side. I drilled into the side of the main body of the omnitrix and glued them in.

Step 4: Painting and Magnets

I painted the whole omnitrix in acrylic paint, I would've preferred to use spray paint since I know how durable it is on rubber after making my last omnitrix but I couldn't find one that matched the green colour I wanted and when I did it was much too expensive so acrylic it was! I used two small, thin magnets in either ends of the straps to made hold the omnitrix together. It holds together really well too

Step 5: Finished

And... Finished!! I assembled it all together with super glue after it dried and it was job done. I want to come back at some point and add a lens to it though. Altogether the prop took me a day to make and cost me nothing because I already had the materials but I checked how much the materials would've cost me if I had to make it again and it was under £7, the two rubber sheets were about £2 each on Ebay, the metal rod was about £1.50 and a green DVD case and paint can be found at any charity shop and arts and craft store. Thank you for checking it out & I hope you liked it! I think it looks great next the original omnitrix I made, which I also have an instructable page for on my profile.
