Introduction: Bunny Cake

About: Hey! I am an Electrical Engineer and I love making fun and useful electronics projects. I am also interested in crafts of all sorts. In particular, I enjoy baking and sewing. Check out what I've made!

A simple and easy way to make a cake in the shape of a bunny. Perfect for Easter, spring, or any bunny-related occasion!

Supplies

Two 8" or 9" round cakes

Frosting

Candies for decorating

Coconut for decorating (optional)

Cardboard (for backing)

Foil (for backing)

Step 1: Bake the Cake

Bake a cake of your choosing. The only constraint is the recipe must be for two 8" or 9" round pans. I chose to make the classic 1-2-3-4 cake.

Step 2: Make Frosting

Make or buy a frosting of your choosing. I made Magnolia's Vanilla Buttercream Frosting. It's easy to make and has a good flavor and consistency. https://www.marthastewart.com/255817/magnolia-bakery-vanilla-buttercream

Step 3: Prepare the Backing

Find a piece of cardboard that is at least 20" x 13" and cover it with aluminum foil. This is what you will put your bunny cake on. I came up with these measurements assuming use of a 9" cake pan. You might be able to squeeze your bunny cake onto a cookie sheet, especially if you're using 8" cake pans.

Step 4: Cut the Cake

Cut an hourglass shape out of one of the two cakes. The hourglass will become the bunny's bow tie and the other pieces will become the ears. Place the pieces on the aluminum-covered cardboard you prepared.

Step 5: Frost

Lather it up with frosting.

Step 6: Decorate

I like to sprinkle coconut on the frosting to make the bunny look "fluffy", then add candies to make the eyes, nose, and whiskers. This is your chance to get creative with it!

Step 7: Done!

Enjoy your bunny-shaped masterpiece!
