Introduction: Chocolate Pecan Pie

Here is the recipe to make a delicious Chocolate pecan pie. It has been my favourite for many years.
I hope you enjoy eating it when you are finished.

Step 1: Making the Pastry

The first step is to make the pastry for the pie. You only need a bottom piece for this pie so, with this recipe you will have more that you need. You can always freeze it and use it later.

Ingredients:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/2 lb Crisco
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup cold water
Tools:
  • Medium bowl
  • Pastry cutter
  • Heavy rolling pin
  • Saran wrap
  • Pie plate
Add the egg to the water and mix well.
Put all the dry ingredients into a bowl and cut in Crisco with the pastry cutter.
Add egg and water mixture to bowl. Mix well.
Take a good snowball sized piece of the pastry mixture and squeeze it together. Be carful not play with the pastry to much or it will become tough.
Then place it on 1 sheet of saran wrap.
Flatten the ball slightly with your hand, then cover with another sheet of saran.
Use marble or other heavy rolling pin to roll it out till it is less that an 1/8in thick.
Remove top saran wrap sheet and slide your hand under the bottom sheet.
Flip pastry upside down into the pie plate.
Cut off extra with a knife.

Step 2:

The next step is to make the pie filling.
Note: if you don't like chocolate you can make it without the chocolate chips but it is not as good.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs slightly beaten
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp margarine melted
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • approx 25 pecan halves
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans
Tools:
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • 1 bowl
  • Spatula
  • whisk
  • wooden spoon
Break the eggs into the bowl and mix with the whisk.
In the bowl add the sugar to the eggs and beat with the whisk. Then blend in the corn syrup, vanilla, butter and salt. Mix with wooden spoon.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips in the bottom of the pie shell.
Pour the the mixture from the bowl into the pie crust. Use the spatula to clean up the bowl.

Step 3: Add the Pecans and Bake It!

Now for the final step.

Place a ring of pecans around the edge of the pie. You can make a design in the middle or just place one in the centre.
Coarsely chop some of the pecans to fill a 1/3 cup.
Sprinkle the chopped pecans around the pie to evenly cover the surface.
Place the pie on a cookie tray and make a ring of foil around the edge of the crust (this will keep it from burning).
Pre-heat your oven to 375F and bake the pie for 15 min. Then another 30-40 min at 325F or until the centre is not jiggly.

Step 4: Time to Eat!

You are done your Chocolate Pecan Pie!
Make sure to let it fully cool before eating or else it will be very runny.
Serve it with or without ice cream and Enjoy!
