Introduction: Chocolate Chips Cookie "Pi"

My friend challenged me to create the perfect Chocolate Chips Cookie Pie.  So here it is!
It makes a 14" round, soft, and delicious cookie, ready to be decorated as you want.  In this version, I used the Pi theme, but anything goes!
You can use my tips and tricks with your own recipe, but I give you mine, in case you don't have a favorite.
Easy and delicious, why don't you give it a try?

Step 1: Mise-en-place

Make sure you have all your ingredients ready. The butter should be at room temperature.

What you will need if you follow my recipe:

3/4 cup butter (or margarine)
1/4 cup coconut oil
3/4 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups chocolate chips

I use some coconut oil because it helps with the texture and it gives a hint of a taste, but you can certainly use 1 cup butter.
I didn't include any nuts, but adding a cup of chopped walnuts or pecans would be good, and give some crunch.

Step 2: Making the Dough

In a large bowl, beat butter and oil together until well mixed and soft.  Add sugar and brown sugar, a little at a time, the vanilla.  Beat until light and fluffy.  Add eggs, one at a time, while beating.

Gradually add the mix of flour, salt, and baking soda, beating until well blended.

Stir in chocolate chips (and nuts if desired).

Step 3: Preparing the Pie

Here are the tips and tricks for a perfect cookie pie.

Prepare a large pizza pan, by lining it with parchment paper.  I used a 16" pizza pan.  Pour the dough in the middle, saving a few tablespoons of dough.
Put another piece of parchment paper, or wax paper, on top of dough.
Using a rolling pin, flatten the dough until it's about 1/4" to 1/2" thick.  Make sure you have at least one inch around it to the edge of the pan.  It's very important.  You pie will expand.
Remove the top piece of paper.  Using tablespoon, add a litlle dough to the edge of the pie.  This will prevent the edge to burn, as it will be thinner when the pie expand in the oven.

Step 4: Baking and Decorating

Bake at 375 F for about 20 to 25 minutes.  It should be a uniform golden brown.
Cool in pan on a cooling rack.

Decorate as desired.
